Democrats Accidentally Expose the Culprit for Food Inflation
Armstrong Economics ^ | 29 July 25 | Martin Armstrong

The Democrats official X account posted a chart featuring US grocery inflation. The intent was to show the public that prices had reached record highs in 2025 under the Trump Administration; however, the graphic actually revealed the culprit for the rise in food prices.

Grocery prices skyrocketed in 2021, a year into the pandemic. Supply chain shortages were abundant, shipping docks were at a standstill, and countless food producers were forced to shutter their businesses to adhere to social distancing guidelines. World trade temporarily halted.

We then had the Ukraine war breakout in 2022, disrupting Europe’s bread basket. Poor weather conditions resulted in low harvests, and a series of diseases spread to livestock and poultry. Every nation experienced a rise in food prices following the disastrous policies set forth in 2020, with most feeling the inflationary shocks starting in 2021.

Food-at-home groceries rose 24% from January 2020 to January 2023. Grocery prices surged 25.8% by March 2024 and did not experience a downturn until April 2024 when prices dropped a mere -0.2% on the monthly.

Grocery prices rose 22% to 25% under Biden’s presidency. “Prices are higher today than they were in July 2024, all in major categories listed below,” read the caption on the since-deleted graphic posted by the Democrat’s X account. If anyone cared to look, they would have seen that prices have fallen relatively flat under Trump, whereas they were skyrocketing under Biden.

I’ve discussed why food prices are rising and have broken it down by product. Now, I do not completely blame the Biden Administration for the drastic uptick in groceries as the entire world shuttered under COVID, which began under Trump. However, Biden implemented a series of failed policies that directly contributed to higher inflation. Inflation overall is certainly much tamer than it was a few years ago.

Prices have never fallen back to pre-pandemic levels, and the prices we see are more or less the new norm. The careless X post by the Democrats illustrates why you cannot look at an isolated micro area, be it eggs or ground beef, and blame it for a macro trend.

There is a tip jar just about everywhere now.

This old HD clip is one of my better sellers for some reason even though there is a 4K remastered out there. It’s a tip jar at an outside event where a friend had a food truck. He makes excellent bratwurst.

Spot-on. Most of the grocery items that I buy regularly have stayed the same “higher” price. The new norm is exactly what it appears to now be, despite the claim of lower inflation.

You realize that deflation would have to occur for the prices to drop?

“I think the democrats immediately deleted the post too once they saw what they did.”

Yes. When someone pointed out their blatant dumbassery, the chart disappeared ... POOF!

Car insurance went up a lot when illegals were allowed on our roads. Most do not buy car insurance so the costs for accidents fall on the insured even if they didn’t cause the accident.

“”You realize that deflation would have to occur for the prices to drop?””

I know. It’s a double-edged sword. And the end result of some kind of major “deflation” event might be that there is no food to purchase. Reality sucks, eh?

Pecks butcher in Dewey has excellent beef they raise themselves, and their prices are not as high as grocery stores.

Many thanks! It’s a fairly hefty road trip from my town, but I just might have to take myself there regardless. I especially like that they raise the beef themselves.

Prices go down during a deflationary period. Inflation rote of 0 mean no increase in prices.

A lot of what’s going on doesn’t make a lot of sense to me (and apparently not to many “economists”, either.

We were told a few days ago that with the big trade deal with the EU, this week would be one of the most momentous in history for the American economy.

How has the stock market reacted so far?

“Meh.”

American economists are dumb. The world economists use us and laugh at our stupid economists and their ridiculous free trade BS.

Once prices skyrocket like that, while they come down, they never come down to pre-whatever levels.

Hey come down enough for people to feel better about it.

And yes, I do realize that other factors are involved in the cost of food production and transport so you can’t really ever expect them to get back to where they were.

That’s why I’m such a big advocate for gardening, if possible. ANYTHING helps, even container gardens for people without land.

And honestly, herbs are usually ridiculously easy to grow and can be passed off in many cases as ornamentals. They are very cost effective to grow when you check out the price of herbs in the stores. And they’re easy enough to harvest and dry. Just takes a little time but the satisfaction is well worth it.
