If it feels like something’s changed between your generation and your father’s and grandfather’s, science may back you up.
Recent data reveals a startling truth: young men today have significantly lower testosterone levels than their counterparts from just two decades ago. In fact, according to U.S. national health survey data, testosterone levels in men aged 15 to 39 have declined by approximately 25% since 1999.
A Shocking Trend Backed by Research
The data comes from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a long-running program that tracks public health trends. Between 1999 and 2016, the average total testosterone levels in young men dropped from around 605 ng/dL to just 451 ng/dL. Even when accounting for lifestyle factors such as obesity, smoking, and physical activity, the trend remained consistent (NHANES source).
And this isn’t an isolated finding. The Massachusetts Male Aging Study, which tracked men aged 45 to 79 over nearly two decades, also recorded a generational decline in testosterone levels independent of age. In this study, median testosterone levels dropped from approximately 501 ng/dL in the late 1980s to 392 ng/dL by the early 2000s (MMAS study).

Estrogen in the drinking water.
Conventional wastewater treatment plants are not specifically designed to remove these micropollutants, including estrogens.
I remember fully bearded 8th graders back in the ‘70s. Hairy backs were legion.
Now many fully adult men have only scraggly partial beards and squeaky little voices.
They are also surrounded by estrogen-mocking endocrine disruptors from birth.
Probably goes the other way: Because we have feminized young men, the culture has been feminized.
I don't know the reason why, but I think I can pinpoint the time when it started . . . .
All the things mentioned so far most likely are a contributing factor. No different than the obesity levels we now have across the country and first world.
It is especially dramatic when you see pictures of people at Coney Island in 1972 vs 2022. People are FAT now.
This is due mostly to inactivity and diet(food and exercise).
When we were kids in the 1950s-1970s even into the 1980s we played outside. We played pickup football, baseball, hockey, tennis, golf, soccer(when the exchange students from Venezuela visited), basketball, badmitten, guns, cowboys and indians, stick ball, handball, frisbee, etc. We went to the beach or the pool or the river/lake in summer. We skied in the winter or rode snowmobiles.
We rode bikes without helmets all day long(be home by dinner). Then, be home before dark. Eventually, be home before 11am(do you know where your children are?).
Now, what do kids do? They play on their devices. IF, they play sports, it is only organized where mom/dad drop them off and pick them up.
When I was 16 I mowed four lawns. All for widows. I rode my bike(10 speed) 2 miles to get to one ladies house. then rode home. The others were closer. Three houses were all adjacent. I started with one. Then the house on either side hired me.
I inherited that job from another local friend who got a job sweeping floors at Bethlehem Steel for $10/hour. He had gotten it from another older friend. I passed it down to another neighbor kid when I went to college.
Today, it is really hard to find a local teenage boy that even knows HOW to do physical labor. I BLAME THEIR FATHERS.
That’s Cary Grant.
I remember the same. I’m 71. I could use the testosterone of a 20 year old…..
As I sit here with my laptop, I suspect you’re right (!!!)
Plus, Cary was allegedly a switch hitter alcoholic.
Probably why their sense of humor is so poor. Guys usually have a sack full of jokes they can retell whenever the situation calls for it but not these snowflakes. If they could identify with any of the Three Stooges, it would be Curly Joe: “Heyyy, not so haarrrd!”.
Indeed! I recall a high school freshman thus bearded. A no BS full, cleanly trimmed beard. He looked awesome. Played a Guard position on the football team, and could usually buy beer. Unbelievable, today.
Female hormones pumped into chickens?
Hugely useful data, thank you!!!
Males my age — millennials, and I refuse to call them “men” — have high voices. They sound like females. Some like very young females.
Everywhere women entered since the 60s got feminized, factories, corporate offices, military, universities, the woman dominated family households, Hollywood, politics, everywhere females enter, the government power and law/lawyers follow, and changes will be made until the females shape it more to their liking.
Sixty years of making everything female friendly has changed more than most people can comprehend or be aware of, the death of a million different cuts, some tiny and some earth shatteringly broad and sweeping, but 60 years of them that made us what we are today.
From colorless office worker, to army sergeant, to cop, school coach, to factory worker, or husband, or teen age boy, 1960 males would not be able to blend in to this America, without firings, lawsuits, and even jail driving them out of the market place.
Ha!
You probably still feel like a teenager, only a modern teenager!
