This Spanish pilot got a little too close to the crowds with his F-18 Hornet yesterday 😬

Pro tip: Planes can't fly in water.

I'm glad Captain Botana was able to recover that spin at the Gijon Sir Show on Sunday, but holy moly that was close.

Another angle:

Anyone want to share what they believe happened here?

It's one thing if the Blue Angels do it:

Check out the photographer who had the coolest Blue Angels shot of all time

I once had a Blue Angel pilot give me a salute from his F-18 while I was providing security as a Civil Air Patrol cadet at a local air show. NOTTHEBEE.COM

Its versatile. I was shocked at the last airshow I went to a few years ago... An F-18 was refueling another F-18 at 300’. I didn’t know the could be set up as tankers.

I used to work on A-7 Corsairs, and they used the D-704 external “buddy store” which looks like a big, fat drop tank but, in addition to fuel, has a hydraulically driven hose with a basket that can be used to fuel other planes. They would mount that on one wing pylon, and put three more fuel drop tanks on, and use that as a “KA-7E” Tanker.

I wonder if they still use those things.

The ones we used back in the Seventies required constant maintenance, as I believe they were worn out from over-use and low budget capability to replace them.

We hated working on them because they were so curmudgeonly, I think!
