The nation's largest teachers' union plans to promote a version of Holocaust remembrance that does not mention Jews, according to its 2025 handbook, which references "victims of the Holocaust from different faiths" and teaches that Israel was founded through "forced, violent displacement and dispossession," its most recent guide for members shows.
The National Education Association, which represents nearly three million public school teachers and education workers, outlined the priorities in its 2025 handbook. The NEA publishes the document each year as a guide on the group's priorities and strategic goals for the association's national and state leaders, staff, and members. It includes the NEA's bylaws and is updated with any new resolutions and policy positions the union has endorsed.

Nazis killed lots of people, but the specific intent of the “Final Solution” was the annihilation of the Jews, so they should probably receive a mention or two.

This is the correct answer. It was anyone who was deemed a threat to the advancement of the Nazi Third Reich. The holocaust must never be forgotten, but the truth is it was only a fraction of all who were lost due to the Nazis dragging the planet into a Second World War, by some estimates nearly 100 million souls.

And when Germany took over a country, they didn't seed to completely irradicate the French or the Polish. Germany tried to 100% irradicate the Jews.
So there is no comparison as far as a race being in the crosshairs of the Nazi's like the Jews were.

But the term Holocaust per se is commonly understood to refer to the systematic and widespread campaign to eliminate the Jewish population. “Holocaust” is a Greek-derived term for the Hebrew word Shoah, a burned sacrifice. I see no reason to de-emphasize the true nature of the “Final Solution” just by saying yes other people were killed too. To what end?

In Poland I think there were roughly equal numbers of Jews and of Polish Catholics killed by the Germans during the war, but that represented 90% of Polish Jews and only 10% of other Poles. I once ran across an English translation of a book about Poland issued under the Communist government’s auspices which talked about the large number of people in Poland killed during WWII without saying anything about half of them being Jews.

Gee, I wonder if the NEA is also teaching that America was founded through “forced, violent displacement and dispossession”... which would also include genocide against the Native American Indians (some of my ancestors).

Both public school management and the leadership of the union owe fealty to the Democratic Party. And on some cases (such as in Chicago) actually have interlocking leadership.
You are right. In Poland the Nazis killed 3 million Jews and 3 million Christians. But that was 90% of the Jewish population and 10% of the Christian population.
The Nazis also targeted the Romani (Gypsies) for extermination. Perhaps a third to a half of the Romani were killed.
They might. It was certainly taught that way in college when I went (1980s).
