Comedian Jon Stewart tore into CBS on Monday for canceling “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert, which the network described as a “financial” decision.
Stewart, during the latest episode of “The Daily Show,” defended his friend and raised the possibility that the move could be an effort to appease President Trump, who has railed against Colbert at times on social media.
“Watching Stephen exceed all expectations in the role and become the number one late-night show on television has been an undeniable great pleasure for me as a viewer and as his friend, and now Stephen has been canceled for purely financial reasons,” he said. “And by the way, not just Stephen’s show. CBS has canceled the entirety of The Late Show franchise. Gone.”
“Now I acknowledge, losing money. Late-night TV is a struggling financial model. We’re all basically operating a Blockbuster kiosk inside of a Tower Records,” the comedian continued. “But when your industry is faced with changes, you don’t just call it a day. My God — when CDs stopped selling, they didn’t just go, ‘Oh well, music, it’s been a good run.’”

Here’s hoping.
They need to INCREASE Colbert’s staff. That will certainly increase ratings.
Don’t cancel until he is hemmoraging the network $100/yr+.
Or, maybe they can spin him off to a Colbert+ model?
my young son had the correct response
stephen who?
and he wasnt kidding
Letterman always made a profit with his Late Show. Yet Stewart claims it is now an automatic loss for the network, but must somehow be subsidized just the same. Typical leftist logic.
Hopefully the Daily Show and that jerkwad Jon Stewart get canned next. That might upset the few hundred people who what it though.
Notice all the late night talk show hosts are white guys.
Of course they would never cancel “The View” even if it only had two viewers.
They subsist in a communist system.
They live large like dictators getting subsidized by who knows what that just got cut off, whatever source it was.
They don’t move in and take his audience like they would in a capitalist system. This is like communism.
They’re begging for their funding to not get cut off.
People don’t watch enough satire
“The Death of Stalin” is what this looks like to me
All Stewart has to do is cover the $30M in losses, and I’m sure CBS will keep Colbert on air.
Watch^
Again to quote one of the greatest movies of all time, “Network”:
“What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state — Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do.”
Its not surprising that people like Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart and Jimmy Kimmel would be attacked to socialism and be utterly astonished when confronted with business realities. They have never held jobs in the private sector or were ever entrepenuers that resulted in the production of real wealth. They have been pampered and shielded from economic realities their entire adult lives. They have no insight or capacity to deal with these matters.
I’m with you. Back from when late night was funny and you didn’t have to be drunk or high to watch it. I miss the Magnificent Carnac.
Don’t fret, Jon. Your buddy Steve will be okay. He can always learn to code.
Learn to code.
Not just wrong, but f***ing wrong. How eloquently put.
No.
And that’s why CBS was losing $40 million a year or more on it annually.
Stewart, you want him back on, YOU pay for it.
Because CBS/Paramount Global was likely getting taxpayer funded subsidies to make up for the loss.
Learn a trade.
Per Mike Rowe. :-)
How about all the whining leftholes that think this an outrage kick-in and send CBS the 40-mil….
That’s it, pure and simple.
Carson reruns are on AntennaTV at 10:00 pm EDT. Maybe they should move it to 11:00 and see if it beats Colbert in the ratings for the time he has left! LOL!
