Pee-wee Herman’s iconic red bicycle to be permanently displayed at the Alamo
New York Post ^ | 7/20/25 | Chris Nesi

The red-and-white souped-up Schwinn bicycle made famous in the 1985 film “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” will soon have a new permanent home in what is arguably one of the most unusual movie tie-ins in the history of celluloid.

The bike — which served as the MacGuffin in the Tim Burton-directed cult favorite — will be permanently displayed in the Alamo Visitor Center and Museum in San Antonio to mark the 40th anniversary of the movie’s theatrical release.

“and.............you only read the headline and not the article.”

I read the article and still think it is extremely disrespectful to the memory of the Alamo.

I thought the tie-in was the Alamo movie theater chain. :/

I note this is in the visitor center, not the actual Alamo.

There are a lot of movie-related items there, John Wayne things to Daniel Boone coon-skin cap from Disney. All to show the cultural significance of the Alamo beyond it’s real historical significance. I think that’s appropriate.

I’m glad it’s not in the Alamo proper, as that is hallowed ground. A lot of good men gave their lives there.

Tying comedy movie props with a historical battleground seems demeaning to those who gave their lives.

It would seem more appropriate to turn Pee-Wee Herman’s house in South Pasadena into a museum itself.

I thought they'd display it in the lobby of a homosexual movie smut theater.

It’s the visitor’s center, not the Alamo proper.

A large section of it is (or will be, when re-opened — I think it’s closed now for renovation) dedicated to the Alamo in movies. It has a large John Wayne section, Davey Crocket stuff (cap, clips of the Disney show), the Steve McQueen movie “The Getaway”, etc.

I was at school with Paul, nicest guy you’d ever care to meet. He just wanted to make people laugh, and he was good at it.
