Hollywood icon Richard Dreyfuss has shared a heartbreaking health update with fans as he confirmed that he is too poorly to attend this year's SharkCon.
The Jaws star, 77, played Matt Hooper in the award-winning Stephen Spielberg film, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
In a new clip shared to SharkCon's Instagram on Sunday, Richard was tucked up in a hospital bed with a Jaws blanket.
Richard looked pale and appeared to struggle when addressing fans heading to the event.
Richard said to the camera: 'Hello fellow cons. I am very, very sorry to tell you that I've been diagnosed with, viral, er…What is it?'

“he is too poorly to attend”
“Too poorly”? Oy.
Hollywood icon drops out of event after heartbreaking diagnosis as they make announcement from hospital bed.
They?
IIRC he’s been red-pilled, or close to it.
“Oy!” again. Have these people ever gone to school?
These things can become very serious when one is 77 years old.
Viral doesn’t respond to antibiotics. However, my understanding is your odds are much better with viral as opposed to bacterial especially if it goes to pneumonia. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Either way it’s a bitchy problem.
Ivermectin
I hope he gets better soon.
It had been a while for me, probably at least 20 years.
I am glad to realize this, if true. His characters always seemed to resonate with me, beginning with Jaws.
I used to think Jim Carrey was hilarious (especially in a movie like “Liar, Liar” where the premise is a lawyer who cannot tell a lie for 24 hours...but he is so far gone I can’t even watch the movie anymore. Same with Di Niro.
Hear, hear!
“My favorite role of his was as Curt in “American Graffiti”. Get well soon Richard.”
Mine too. Without getting into detail, that movie along with a couple from my church were very influential in my life direction (In a good way)
I was fortunate enough to attend an event where he was meeting with fans and signing. I had him autograph my copy of the movie poster. I had a tough time explaining to him how the movie affected my life w/o choking up.
The line was long and slow moving. He took time with each and every fan - which I thought was incredibly generous.
I guess that explains your screen name. A brilliant movie in every way that resonates with so many people.
“ The older you get the less you should move.”
I disagree. The moment you stop moving daily is the start of the decline for people. A sedentary lifestyle is not healthy.
True... But after awhile you only have so many heartbeats left... Why waste them on Sharkcon?
@21: It may be red coat language. It is the Uk Daily Mail.
“It may be red coat language.”
Maybe. But didn’t we retain the proper “King’s English”?
I had a teacher who once said that the pronunciation and accents Americans have is closer to the original English than what's spoken in Britain today.
Her point was that a people move from place to place, their language remains the same. When people stay in one spot, their language changes.
The proof of that is in how the English pronounce certain sounds. For example, whenever there's an 'ah' sound in the word, the brits add an 'r' sound to it.
So, Florida becomes 'Floridar,' saw becomes 'sawr', bra becomes 'brar,' wash becomes 'warsh,' etc.
They have other weird pronunciations, but these are the most obvious.
Great post.
That’s true re pronunciation. The discussion had to do with proper grammar.
