The Climate Of Misinformation: Why Business Must Now Defend The Truth
Forbes ^ | July 11, 2025 | ByFelicia Jackson

When the world’s top climate diplomats gathered in Bonn earlier this year to prepare for COP29, one issue cut through the noise, not just the usual challenges of finance and emissions, but something more intangible and potentially more corrosive: the rise of targeted misinformation and disinformation in the climate space.

In 2024, the World Economic Forum identified misinformation and disinformation as the world’s top short-term risk.

Disinformation doesn’t just delay climate action; it destabilizes the institutions, policies, and coalitions needed to deliver it.

Dr. Fredrik Bertley president and chief executive officer of COSI, the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) told me, “You don’t have to deny climate change anymore. You just have to say, ‘It’s not my fault, it’s too expensive, it’s China’s fault.’ That’s climate denial 2.0.”

Climate misinformation is not just an internet nuisance; it is a deliberate and often coordinated attempt to paralyze policy and stall investment. It manifests in many forms: misleading claims about the reliability of renewables, cultural backlash against clean energy mandates, and organized efforts to smear net zero targets as elitist or anti-freedom. Sean Buchan, intelligence unit coordinator at Climate Action Against Disinformation (CAAD) said, “They’re no longer pushing outright denial. They’re attacking climate action itself, particularly renewables, with emotionally charged, misleading arguments.”

Dr. Bertley adds, “We can't just keep talking about CO₂. It doesn’t mean anything to most people. We need analogies that land, that resonate.”

As the world heads toward COP30 in Belém, one message is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore: climate action depends on trust. And in this climate, defending the truth against misinformation may be the most important leadership test of all.

Yes, the climate Armageddon lies apparently now need to be “codified” before they lose their mojo.

This is Covid Speak. Crush dissent at all cost using the full weight and power of governance. As an example, in Nazi Germany it was considered naughty to be Jewish and that idea was encouraged by fear and by reward.

Yup.

The exposure of weather modification, i.e. changing climate, to fight climate change narrative is now seen for what it is , an oxymoron that only morons believe and engage in.

Go MTG !!!

...” it is a deliberate and often coordinated attempt to paralyze policy and stall investment.”

If it isn’t, it should be. Any effort to paralyze the advancement of the climate cult is a good thing. “Stall investment” is just code speak for cutting back government spending.

Forbes is working for the CCP.

Who benefits the most financially and industrially from the “climate” agenda? China - which makes more “green” industrial equipment (solar, wind, batteries) than anyone else (while coal produces most of its energy). And who benefits the most politically by the nations adopting more socialist type industrial policies to satisfy the “climate” agenda? The CCP.

Forbes is working for the CCP.

A few years ago when I first started pointing out that F5/EF5 tornadoes have gone extinct (a positive example of climate change to the extent it is actually a thing), you could look up straightforward lists of F5 tornadoes on sites like Wikipedia with no issue.

But I guess they couldn't stand to let any information stand that suggests there are benefits to a changing climate, so they are now doing their best to obfuscate the F5 tornado list by cluttering the pages up with long lists of "possible F5 tornadoes" and "did damage like an F5" type nonsense. Imagine looking up a list of 7.0+ earthquakes and having to wade through "possible 7.0+" and "did damage like a 7.0+" earthquake speculation.

They did the same thing when they turned the Medieval Warm Period from a well-known historical model into a "controversial hypothesis" some years ago, as well.

The many points of no return.

**1980**

Global warming apocalypse 1980s edition The U.N. was already claiming in the late 1980s that the world had only a decade to solve global warming or face the consequences. The San Jose Mercury News reported June 30, 1989 that a “senior environmental official at the United Nations, Noel Brown, says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth by rising sea levels if global warming is not reversed by the year 2000.” That prediction didn’t come true 17 years ago (29 Years NOW), and the U.N. Is sounding the same alarm today.

**2002**

Environmentalists warned in 2002 the world had a decade to go green Environmentalist write George Monbiot wrote in the UK Guardian that within “as little as 10 years, the world will be faced with a choice: arable farming either continues to feed the world’s animals or it continues to feed the
world’s people. It cannot do both.”

About 930 million people around the world were undernourished in 2002, according to U.N. data. By 2014, that number shrank to 805 million. Sorry, Monbiot.

**2007**

The U.N.’s top climate scientist said in 2007 we only had four years to save the world Rajendra Pachauri, the former head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said in 2007 that if “there’s no action before 2012, that’s too late.” “What we do in the next two to three years will determine our future. This is the defining moment,” he said. Well, it’s 2017 and no new U.N. climate treaty has been presented. The only thing that’s changed since then is that Pachauri was forced to resign earlier this year amid accusations he sexually harassed multiple female coworkers.

**2009**

Prince Charles famously warned in July 2009 that humanity had only 96 months to save the world from “irretrievable climate and ecosystem collapse, and all that goes with it.” That deadline has passed, and the prince has not issued an update to when the world needs to be saved.

**2009**

Even before that, then-National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Space Flight Center head James Hansen warned in 2009 that Obama only “has four years to save Earth.” World leaders met in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2009 to potentially hash out another climate treaty. That same year, the head of Canada’s Green Party wrote that there was only “hours” left to stop global warming. “We have hours to act to avert a slow-motion tsunami that could destroy civilization as we know it,” Elizabeth May, leader of the Greens in Canada, wrote in 2009. “Earth has a long time. Humanity does not. We need to act urgently. We no longer have decades; we have hours. We mark that in Earth Hour on Saturday.”

**2009**

United Kingdom Prime Minister Gordon Brown said there was only 50 days left to save Earth The year 2009 was a bad time for global warming predictions. That year Brown warned there was only “50 days to save the world from global warming,” the BBC reported. According to Brown there was “no plan B.” Brown has been booted out of office since then.

**2012**

The United Nations Foundation President Tim Wirth told Climatewire in 2012 that Obama’s second term was “the last window of opportunity” to impose policies to restrict fossil fuel use. Wirth said it’s “the last chance we have to get anything approaching 2 degrees Centigrade,” adding that if “we don’t do it now, we are committing the world to a drastically different place.”

**2014**

France’s foreign minister said we only have “500 days” to stop “climate chaos” When Laurent Fabius met with Secretary of State John Kerry on May 13, 2014 to talk about world issues he said “we have 500 days to avoid climate chaos.” Ironically at the time of Fabius’ comments, the U.N. had scheduled a climate summit to meet in Paris in December 2015 — some 565 days after his remarks. Looks like the U.N. is 65 days too late to save the world. Make that years

**2015**

World leaders meeting at the Vatican issued a statement saying that 2015 was the “last effective opportunity to negotiate arrangements that keep human-induced warming below 2-degrees [Celsius].” Pope Francis wants to weigh in on global warming, and is expected to issue an encyclical saying basically the same thing. Francis reiterated that 2015 is the last chance to stop massive warming. But what he should really say is that the U.N. conference is the “last” chance to cut a deal to stem global warming…since last year when the U.N. said basically the same thing about 2014’s climate summit. **2018**

While Trump rejects science, Obama and Clinton warn of climate change’s urgent danger By Greta Moran on Sep 7, 2018 The Democratic Party VIPs offered sobering remarks on the immediacy of climate change on Friday. Former President Obama and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton warned separately that climate change is not an intangible, future threat, but one that is at this moment devastating the planet and its inhabitants. During a “State of Democracy” speech at the University of Illinois, Obama offered a science-backed reminder: “We know that climate change isn’t just coming. It is here.” Clinton issued a similar sentiment on Twitter. “We’re not fighting for the planet in some abstract sense here,” she said. “We’re fighting for our continued ability to live on it.” She pointed to record-high temperatures across the world, the biggest wildfire in California history, and an unprecedented red tide in Florida — all visible signs that climate change is something to be contending with right now.
