The nation’s largest teachers union faced ridicule this week for misspelling “fascism” in a resolution opposing President Trump.
The National Education Association (NEA), which represents more than 3 million teachers nationwide, approved the mangled proposal – aimed at defending “the survival of civilization itself” – on Sunday at the group’s annual convention.
“NEA pledges to defend democracy against Trump’s embrace of fascism by using the term facism [sic] in NEA materials to correctly characterize Donald Trump’s program and actions,” read the adopted agenda item, obtained by conservative education expert Corey A. DeAngelis, who shared it on X.
“The members and material resources of NEA must be committed to the defense of the democratic and educational conditions required by our hopes for a just society and the survival of civilization itself by stating the truth,” the wordy new business item continued.
The document noted that calling out Trump’s “facism” [sic] in NEA materials “cannot be accomplished with current staff and resources” because it would cost an additional $3,500 to do so.
DeAngelis, and several people on social media, mocked the NEA over the spelling error.
“Yes, the union that claims to represent educators couldn’t even spell ‘fascism’ correctly in its official resolution attacking the president,” he wrote in a Fox News opinion piece. “The irony is almost too rich to parody.”
Tina Descovich, the CEO and co-founder of conservative group Moms for Liberty, argued that the agenda item was emblematic of the dismal state of the American education system.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Fifty years ago I commented to another college student about the exact same spelling error in a paper she had written. She replied, “That was the way some black leftist had spelled the word fascist”. I don’t recall which black leftist it was, but the erroneous spelling has been around for decades.
To be fair, they did manage to spell it correctly in the same sentence. It’s probably a typo, which someone in education should recognize. They deserve mockery, regardless.
“Teachers aren’t what they used to be. Here I am in my 70s and I can still remember the name of every teacher I had all the way up to graduation from high school.”
I am 78. Can’t remember half the names.
I am good to grade 6. After that, not so good.
Same here brother; from Sister Anne Gabriel (1964-65) to Sister Mary Aquino (1976) these women were selfless, self-effacing, pious, great teachers. I can’t say enough about their influence on my life.
...and yes, Rush’s death has left a hole that has yet to be filled
I’m with you. I understand where you are coming from.
So, fascism, at it's root, is the state-sanctioned power to punish at will. In its practice, it amounts to capricious and unequal administration of justice. Written law isn't of much importance. Kind of like the "our Democracy" that Democrats enjoy heralding at every opportunity, where they flaunt laws they don't like (immigration, financial responsibility, time-for-crime, etc.) and weaponize the judicial system to incapacitate and punish rivals.
Yes, we must be against faces!
Lol.
They can't spell it correctly because they're basically uneducated idiots despise their *graduating* from college.
The one word they never get wrong is raise.
The NEA is just another left wing group that wants control, in this case of the educational system. Just as left wing professors have control of the universities.
I hear they also spell “Nazi”, “notsee”....
Interesting how the Nationalist and Communist SOCIALIST political parties call each other by the name of a third rate Italian Political party of the 1930s.
I'll bet 90% of Freepers don't know what fascism is either.
Your definition would equally apply to communism... or any totalitarian system.
My point is liberals are basically stupid - and as far as sweeping AI answers go it’s a ‘garbage in garbage situation.. As AI gets smarter we’ll get better answers.
It’s a stupid/evil economic system right down there with Marxism - it wasn’t set up as a ‘kill Jews economic system’ originally ... anymore than communism was set up as a ‘starve million of humans’ system. You might be right on the number of people who have a clue.
