MARION COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A handcuffed woman on her way to jail in a patrol car allegedly managed to retrieve a hidden gun from her waist and opened fire on the deputy who arrested her.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) said that on Monday at 10 a.m. Rheanna Harden was arrested on multiple charges after a traffic stop.
According to MCSO, Haren was handcuffed and searched before she was put in the backseat of a deputy's patrol car to take her to jail.
Officials said that while on their way to jail, traveling on S highway near the 2900 block, Harden, who was still handcuffed, managed to retrieve a concealed firearm from her pants and opened fire at the deputy's head.
The patrol vehicle then crashed into a utility pole, and the deputy got out of the vehicle, returned fire, and sought cover, per MCSO.
The deputy suffered a graze wound near his right eye, while Harden sustained injuries to her shoulder and hip.
Harden, who has a lengthy criminal history, was initially accused of Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Providing False Identification to Law Enforcement, and Knowingly Driving While License Suspended after the traffic stop.
However, she now faces additional charges and is being held at the Marion County Jail without bond.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Yes, a “career ending vs life threatening” question for the male officer. To do a thorough search, it could be deemed sexual assault under any other circumstances.
But wouldn’t it be SOP for a female deputy to be called to do the frisk? Was that the unreported situation here? Not that there would be any DEI hires on the force. /s
Excellent suggestion.
glad the officer is only injured
he is lucky to be alive
i bet his pat downs will be more thorough going forward
Gee Noe how do dealers stay in business.
I doubt that. Old lady now, but the 25 years I spent working in all male prisons, I frisked them...every part of them. Supervised strip searches. They might not have liked it, but that was the way I was taught to frisk, and never had a complaint from my supervisors for it. I had a couple of wannabe muslims that complained I was frisking them. The rule was, if there was no male officer available to do the frisking, the female officer was allowed to do it. That was NY State when I started in 1980. I can't imagine a police force would want to jeopardize the safety of their officers, and the public, by limiting the body areas an officer can search while taking a criminal into custody.
♫ I got a pistol in my pocket, I’m Alabama bound
That wouldn't be out of the question, and should already be part of the rules and regulations. I'm thinking, if this was a male officer, he was too lazy to make the call, and went ahead and put her in the car. His laziness could have caused him his life. And some male officers, don't want to be seen as having to rely on a female to help him collar a perp. I'm speaking as a female who worked in uniform for 25 years in NY State's prison system. I only worked in male prisons.
My first facility was Auburn prison, a max facility. One time, not long after I had started the job, I was on my day off, a Saturday, and they called me in to frisk a female visitor they had a tip was going to bring drugs in that day, and I needed to do a strip search on her. They called me because there were no other females working that day. She had nothing on her.
“One look at the sores on her face would cause me to be less than rigorous in frisking her.”
doubled gloves for that job ... just to be safe ...
given that she bothered to use makeup, i’m guessing she might do a bit of free-lance hooking to support her habit ...
Boy, howdy.
She was “searched”????
Holy moley.
Interesting friend. 😆
She won’t have a long life. Doubt if she makes middle-age.
I'd spend my own money and keep some chemical resistant nitrile gloves in the trunk for these type cases.
They need refresher courses on frisking people it seems.
Balanced on the biggest wave,
You race to-wards an early grave.
