Carnival Cruise Line is under fire after implementing a series of new onboard policies that some Black passengers say are restrictive at best and racist at worst.
The rules, introduced in June, have triggered a wave of cancellations and a broader debate about how cruise culture is evolving.
According to Carnival, the changes are meant to enhance safety and improve the overall guest experience. But for some travelers, the message feels exclusionary.
“We got the message loud and clear, we are not your demographic anymore,” said one TikToker who shared that she canceled her reservation for a friend’s birthday celebration. “Carnival decided they wanted to rebrand.”
Among the new policies is a zero-tolerance stance on marijuana, even if it’s legal in a passenger’s home state.
Because cruise ships fall under U.S. federal maritime law, all cannabis products are banned.
“Marijuana, including cannabis and its derivatives…are unlawful and strictly prohibited on board,” Carnival stated. Violations can lead to removal from the ship, a lifetime ban, law enforcement involvement, and possible fines.
There’s also a Carnival curfew now in place for minors. Passengers 17 and under must be off public decks by 1:00 a.m. unless participating in a supervised youth program or accompanied by an adult.
The cruise line also allegedly banned on the popular “Wobble” dance.
Another rule that’s drawn criticism is a new ban on handheld, non-battery-operated fans.
While Carnival cited safety concerns over the loud “clacking” sound — originally popularized by a viral “Boots on the Ground: Where Them Fans At?” line dance by 803Fresh, where dancers loudly “clack” fans on certain parts of the song — some believe the move unfairly targets Black cultural expression.
Similarly, the cruise line has tightened its regulations on personal Bluetooth speakers and appears to be limiting Hip-Hop and rap music played in onboard clubs, though no formal ban exists.
The perception that the company is distancing itself from its Black passengers has spread online.
DECENT BLACKS NEED TO SPEAK UP!
White Liberals side with the Ns, because that’s how they keep their power. Decent blacks get labelled as “Uncle Toms”, and are intimidated into silence.
“a cruise ship. It sounds like hell.”
Meh, I’ve been taking Carnival cruises for 10 years. Never had a problem. Even with my kids. Their crews are superb with phenomenal management.
Haven’t been in 2 years tho. Maybe things have changed?
Looks like Carnival is cracking down on personal space trespassers.
‘Black Entrepreneurship’ can always make its own cruise line.
Seen some videos that warrant the crack down.
I’ve never seen the Urban Crowd in their Trivia Contests. I’m culturally deprived.
7 nights?
No wobble dancing? Geez. That’s harsh.

Ok, I’m out. Cruises sound far too peopley for me.
What the deck security cameras catch on these cruise ships is pretty X rated.
My daughter used to work for Gaylord in Nashville. She worked on the General Jackson paddle wheel dinner cruise boat.
Every year, a certain local college black fraternity would book the boat for a dinner cruise just for them. The employees referred to it as The Night on the African Queen.
One year, they badly oversold tickets. The boat crew had to raise the gangplank to avoid boat occupancy beyond Coast Guard limits. People in suits were hanging on the gang plank as it was raised. Angry people were shouting. Booze started flowing and an all-out fight started in the main dining room. Furniture was flying. Hard liquor was being brazenly stolen and the crew were caught in the fight and could not stop the brawl. There was lots of damage to the furniture and boat.
The cops were called. The boat returned to the dock quickly and was met by dozens of cop cars with flashing blue lights.
THE MEDIA IN NASHVILLE REPORTED NOTHING ABOUT THE RIOT.
There was a subsequent meeting with management and key members of the organization. The fraternity were told they could NEVER RENT THE BOAT AGAIN ! They had to pay a large bill for damages and theft.
Samuel Johnson said that being on a ship is the same as being in jail, with the added danger of drowning. But not being caught in the equivalent of a prison riot.
Too many “teens” running rampant
I watched quite a few YouTube broadcasts by Black hosts who are not at all sympathetic to cries of racism. They are out and out fed up with ghetto rats. Blacks too have “Ghetto fatigue.”
“Guilt” does not have a color!
Yeah, it’s a floating mall. That you can’t leave for days.
The Electric Slide
But you had to be jabbed and boosted to do so...
Youre a n00bie
We had that discussion on the unConstitional requirement to be jabbed in order to cruise during those years...
There are many long-time cruises in these pages...
BTW for 55 cruises you dont have many sail days...
Wow. Looks like the ship line has had it. To much trouble with a certain demographic Banning certain behaviors and practices. You don’t like it, stay away then.
Sounds like the midnight showing pre-opening night of Batman at the showcase cinema I worked at in the early 80’s
Tons of blacks showed up and the cinema over sold the tickets.
I was sitting on the floor in the back when the cops showed up.
When the projector was shut off all hell broke loose.
We found ourselves in a live action national geographic tribal riot.
Local, state, swat all showed up.
Lobby got totally trashed.
Pretty exciting stuff!
Much more than the movie..

Ok for those slow on the up-take (Britney Griner) that includes marijuana oils for your vape pen. Got that, Dude?
