That proves how awful popular music was in 1975.

You might find it annoying. Structurally, it is darned close to the platonic ideal of a pop record.

Toni Tennille’s voice is lovely. Arrangement was great. There were a LOT worse tunes in 1975. And THOSE are scads better from anything popular from the Grunge era and after.

I prefer that to pretty anything that’s hit the charts in this century.

1975
Dylan’s ‘Blood on the Tracks’ came out.
Grateful Dead live
Pink Floyd ‘Wish You Were Here’
America ‘Hearts’
Marshall Tucker Band ‘Where We All Belong’
We saw-
The above
Allman Bros
The Dead
James Taylor
Tom Waits
CSN
New Riders of the Purple Sage
Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen
The Flying Burrito Brothers
Jefferson Starship

This earworm stuff was on the AM dial but there was great compositions and a lot of fun Rock and Roll and Blues coming out that we still play

Co-written by Neil Sedaka and, in the fade-out, Toni Tennille sings “Sedaka is back”

Fun fact...Toni Tennille did backing vocals on Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”

1975 we finally were out of Vietnam

It was a good time.
Dads were driving 7 mph Lincoln’s and Oldsmobiles.
We had free speech.
Boys had deep voices, and they were funny
Families had 5 to 10 kids, we could do anything we wanted, no one missed us AND we were expendable.
A VW bug was $800 cash

Any top 40 song that reminds us of that is good. But spare us the simplistic ear worm stuff. The title alone is enough to make it settle in for a week

August 16 list that year-
The BeeGees? I mean even this Dead Head can appreciate their perfect familial
harmonies

2 4 ONE OF THESE NIGHTS –•– The Eagles (Asylum)-12
3 3 PLEASE MR. PLEASE –•– Olivia Newton-John (MCA)-11

6 7 RHINESTONE COWBOY –•– Glen Campbell (Capitol)-12
7 8 WHY CAN’T WE BE FRIENDS –•– War (United Aritsts)-16
8 9 HOW SWEET IT IS (To Be Loved By You) –•– James Taylor (Warner Brothers)-9
9 6 MIDNIGHT BLUE –•– Melissa Manchester (Arista)-15
10 10 THE ROCKFORD FILES –•– Mike Post (MGM)-14

Absolutely the WORST number one song ever.
The only song worse ever in the history of the world is Muskrat Love.
There’s a pattern there...

I was into The Moody Blues and 10cc in the mid-70s

Then I heard Roxy Music and nothing has been the same since.
