I wondered, but didn’t look.
Now the kid’s doubly stupid for believing that they’d just gas him up and let him go on his merry way after filing a false flight plan.
Re my last:
It seems to me that someone would probably have been advising him; if he faces charges that person(s) should be charged, too.
Because the idiots aren't prepared for the conditions and many will die there and put the lives of those who work there at risk.
The people who work there aren't paid search and rescue teams and if they have to go out and risk THEIR lives looking for every fool who gets himself in trouble, they'll never get anything done.
Plus they're not getting paid for that risk. It's not what they signed up for.
Besides, seeing what damage *tourists* do to an environment with no oversight, they're better off being kept away than destroying the last virtually untouched ecosystem in the world.
For me, filing a false flight plan is why he should be arrested.
I agree!
Agree! He did not do this all on his own.
Using up his Frequent Flier Miles Guo?
If a pilot listens to anyone, it's on the pilot, not the other person. It's a U.S. regulation, not Chilean, but this pilot knew from his training that it's on him:
Title 14 / Chapter I / Subchapter F / Part 91 / Subpart A / § 91.3 Responsibility and authority of the pilot in command.
(a) The pilot in command of an aircraft is directly responsible for, and is the final authority as to, the operation of that aircraft.
Not the season, Southern Hemisphere dead of winter, to fly anywhere near Antarctica. The Chilean authorities likely saved this idiot’s life, leaving Darwin disappointed.
Detained here means that he has no way off the island. I suspect he will get to live in a tent until they come to pick him up. Not sure what he will do for food. Beans 2x a day perhaps.
Besides, seeing what damage *tourists* do to an environment with no oversight, they’re better off being kept away than destroying the last virtually untouched ecosystem in the world.
I think a few tourists aren’t a danger to a ice covered continent. Individuals are much less likely to screw things up than Government researchers with no oversight.
Let people know, they are on their own. No rescue, no food, no water, no housing. If you show up, you are truly on your own.
My suspicion is there is something going on there that the public is not supposed to know about or see. While the US was playing at Moon shots, the rest of the world was down in the big freeze, at least the major players. They signed a treaty, with the USSR, Britain, France, Germany and the US. Now at the time, we were mortal enemies with USSR, as were others.
