British pop star Lily Allen has had so many abortions that killed her unborn children she recently laughed because she can’t remember how many.
Allen’s comments and flippant reaction sparked outrage among pro-life advocates after casually admitting on her podcast that she cannot recall how many abortions she has had, estimating “four or five.”
The remarks, made during a discussion about contraception on her “Miss Me?” podcast, were met with condemnation from pro-life people who called her comments disrespectful to the sanctity of unborn life.
Speaking with co-host Miquita Oliver, Allen, 40, described her reproductive history as a “complete disaster area” before using an intrauterine device (IUD) in her early twenties.
“Abortions. I’ve had a few, but then again, I can’t remember exactly how many,” Allen said, singing the words to the tune of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.”
She later added, “I want to say four or five,” prompting laughter during the episode.
Oliver also shared that she had “about five” abortions, noting that getting an IUD “really changed” her life as she “stopped getting abortions.”
Pro-life advocates swiftly criticized Allen’s remarks, with many expressing dismay over her lighthearted tone.
“Had she never heard about birth control?”
“Her flippant attitude toward abortion is heartbreaking and shows a disregard for the gravity of ending unborn lives,” said a spokesperson for a U.K.-based pro-life organization, speaking anonymously due to the issue’s sensitivity.
“Each abortion represents a lost human life, and to treat it as a laughing matter is deeply troubling.”
Allen, known for hits like “Smile” and “F— You,” has previously been vocal about her support for abortion. In 2022, she joined Olivia Rodrigo at Glastonbury to perform “--— You” in protest of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Allen defended killing babies in abortions as birth control.
“Most people, including myself, chose to have an abortion simply because they ‘didn’t want children’. That in itself is a good reason. There is no need to justify it,” Allen wrote on social media at the time.
