'Bail Denied': Here's Why Sean 'Diddy' Combs and His Supporters Shouldn't Get Too Excited Yet

The jury finally reached a verdict earlier on Wednesday when it comes to all of the counts against Sean "Diddy" Combs. While he was found "guilty" on two counts to do with the Mann Act, he was found "not guilty" on the RICO count and two counts of sex trafficking. Combs and his supporters were celebrating, but he's not going free just yet.

According to one of the latest live updates from The New York Times, Judge Arun Subramanian denied him bail and has ordered Combs to still remain in detention until sentencing, which is still to be determined. The 55-year-old Combs could still face 20 years in prison, though he could have faced life in prison if found guilty of other charges.

Live coverage from CNN's Jake Tapper regarded the update as coming as a move the judge made "rather shockingly" and noted it was "a surprising development," even when the reasons for bail being denied were still coming in.

The updates also include some commentary from the prosecutor and Combs' attorney.

One update focused on how Mann Act violations are still serious crimes:

Maurene Comey, a prosecutor, said that the law holds that someone convicted of the Mann Act should be detained. The only things exceptional about him. Ms. Comey said, are “his wealth, his violence and his brazenness.”

“There is nothing exceptional about this case except for his continued criminality,” she added.

There's also updates to do with Combs' attorney. "Marc Agnifilo, Sean Combs’s lawyer, is speechifying now, telling the judge that Mr. Combs has been a model prisoner, has children who have been without a parent — but it’s not clear for what purpose, as the judge has already ruled about bail," read one particularly candid live update from inside the courthouse.

"'He is a man...

The Feds can appeal the verdict and might, who knows.

Denying him bail now, just makes the judge look better, when he sentences the scumbag to time served. Nothing more.

They can’t really appeal a “not guilty” jury verdict.

The Mann Act?! LOL.... what is this, the 1920s? The Mann act? I can’t stop laughing. This was a law written back when someone smuggled a Model-A full of flappers to a speakeasy across the state line.

The law was passed by a society that sought to channel sex into marriage, as that avoided STDs and illegitimate children before abortion became accepted as a means of birth control after the fact. Today's society is quite different from that one. It's far more libertine and sinful.

How in the hell do you get caught up in THAT throwback of a law?

Stupidity and selective prosecution of consensual behavior. Who did Combs think he was, Hunter Biden? If he paid a woman to cross state lines for sex, he did commit a crime.

I meant because Combs did it. He’s guilty as charged. (Probably guilty of much more than he’s been charged with.)

No bail indicates maybe jail time to me
I’m guessing 3-5

18 months to 30 months left to cover that and then half way house

At an FCI which is better than USP hellhole

But still can be rough

He can pay a black car to cover him

It doesn’t matter if he’s locked up or serves no time, he’s got plenty of loyal associates that will seek revenge for him. I wouldn’t want to be one of those people who testified for the prosecution.

I’ve been concerned about that, too. The guy is a really nasty piece of work.

I hope the witnesses have some protection.

"Sounds like a real big racist Judge to me but NYC was a center of racism and slavery for many, many years...."

Democrat politicians kicked blacks out of Seneca Village that they had settled in, bought property, and built houses on, so they could create Central Park. Whigs and Democrats were in power during this time.

I agree. Either buy a gun if they don't have one, and/or if they can afford it, private security. But security can be bought too.

They usually riot for no good reason, but when there is a good reason, they aren't out there.

Maybe they could do some pre-sentencing detention of about 40 years.
