If this is true, it is very important.
I worked for a time with hearing impaired people, mostly elderly. Deafness can be more isolating than blindness.
We will see how this plays out. If it was indeed done in China then it will be done elsewhere in 1st world countries.
That’s wonderful news, this gene therapy.
I get the impression such gene therapy will not last for the remaining life of the patient. Perhaps just like Botox injections, the gene therapy for treating deafness is for short term duration only, and will require replenishment two or three times a year. That requirement may be frequent in the oncoming years.
It took at least five people in China to write this article.
If gene therapy can safely and effectively restore hearing, perhaps other genetic--and perhaps non-genetic--diseases can also be effectively treated and even cured.
