George W Bush has issued a rare critique of Donald Trump over his shuttering of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The former president joined Barack Obama and U2 singer Bono in an emotional video call farewell with staff at the agency on Monday when it officially ceased operations.
After six decades, the humanitarian organisation created by former president John F Kennedy to promote US national security by boosting prosperity and goodwill abroad, is being absorbed into the State Department under the supervision of Marco Rubio.
Speaking to thousands of agency staff on the video conference, Mr Bush took a thinly veiled swipe at cuts to USAID’s HIV and aids programme. The initiative, launched under his Republican administration, is credited with saving 25 million lives around the world.
“You’ve showed the great strength of America through your work – and that is your good heart,’’ Mr Bush told agency staffers in a recorded message. “Is it in our national interests that 25 million people who would have died now live? I think it is, and so do you.”
USAID was one of the first agencies fiercely targeted by Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) cuts to government spending, with Elon Musk branding it a “criminal organisation”.

Written by Chairman Maobama?
The bloom was off the Bush rose in 2004 when the first thing he did after winning re-election was announce he was going to “spend political capital” on amnesty, then tried over and over and over, cursing the people who voted for him for thwarting him by hounding congress about it. He was never who he said he was and he’s definitely disgusted that he got stopped by the people he pretended to like. A man who lied us into a forever war and was the OG pioneer on the open border craze of the 21st century, what’s not to like?
Because we THOUGHT he was a Patriotic Conservative that Loved America, and we let him stand behind us while we looked outward for what was best for America.
We didn't see the Knife-In-The-Back coming.
And then there’s Jeb, Mr. 3%.
I don’t take a lot of what Bush says as being on point as he was the president that didn’t pay attention to the housing debacle and bought into what Chris Dodd and Barney Frank were leaving behind the bush. If he can’t do better than that, then he should just fade into the mist. He isn’t trustworthy to getting it right what ever it is.

“W” SCRUB Speaks!
.
The Globalist comes Out !
.
Must be A WIN For America!
For 8 years Dear Leader trashed this mope and blamed all of his failures on W’s policies. Bush said nothing. However, with Pres Trump in office all of a sudden W found his voice.
Pathetic. Frustrating looking back at all the time I wasted back in 2000 and 2004 and in between supporting this full diaper load
Yuppers
I was at the Campo Border and heard the Shrub say He’d see us At the Signing of His Open Borders bill !
.
Denied !!!
George the dummy speaks again. Just as ignorant as brainless Joe.
Shut up, Bush, you horrible horrible disappointment. And you said nothing about those POSes, Obozo and Biden. But now you come out of hiding to trash Trump.
Go away. Just go away.
Rush spent the first few Bush years doing mental gymnastics trying to justify Bush’s acts as somehow conservative. I gave up listening.
I do not understand why GWB feels a need to make a public comment about DJT.
Does he think his public opinion will change the political tide? Perhaps a few but not the masses. He has no clout as best as I can see.
Is he looking to be thought of as still relevant and misses the limelight? Some politicians are narcissists but I never thought that of him (vs an Obama, Clinton etc).
I don’t understand his motive.
The Dims never liked him (accept Billary, Inc.) and now the GOP does not like him.
The GWBush attitude represents a failure to admit that USAID had become a left-Liberal captured agency with rogue agendas and methods that did not serve the national interest. GW was blind to the existence of the swamp, living in a bubble of pretense that many federal agencies remained bastions of non-partisanship, ignoring they had become disrespectful of executive oversight.
Overall, Rush was one of the strongest promoters of America and Americanism of the 20th and 21st Centuries.
I never stopped listening, or critiquing Rush when rarely necessary.
Bush just can’t keep the Globalist in.
Shut up W ! Nobody pulled you’re string.
GWB is a Rino he flows wher the cash does.
I would have expected nothing less.
