In an embarrassing moment, woke Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass admitted that her city was in such bad shape following the anti-ICE riots that it might not be ready to host the World Cup, pointing to how much graffiti had been left behind by rioters acting out in opposition to President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
For background, on June 10, 2025, LA Mayor Karen Bass reflected on the impact of the anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protests that broke out on June 6 and culminated in the dispatching of the National Guard and the Marines by President Trump. During the conference, Mayor Bass admitted that there was such “extensive” graffiti that Los Angeles might not be prepared to host an event as significant as the 2026 World Cup.
During the press conference, Mayor Bass began by saying that the city had “not received words (sic) of raids” by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, adding, ” I think you all understand that the city is not notified when ICE goes to a workplace. What we rely on, frankly, is reporting from the community, especially the immigrant rights organizations that have formed the rapid response network.”
Continuing, Mayor Bass conceded that the “violence we saw last night,” referring to the protests, was “unacceptable,” adding, “I do not believe that individuals that commit vandalism and violence in our city really are in support of immigrants. They have another agenda. If you support immigrants and the rights of immigrants to be in our city, you would not be tearing the city apart or vandalizing it.”
In addition, the mayor tried to downplay the significance and severity of the riots, saying, “Those of us in Los Angeles understand that the unrest that has happened are a few blocks within the downtown area. It is not all of downtown, and it is not all of the city. She continued, “Unfortunately, the visuals make it seem as though our entire city is in flames, and it is not the case at all. I think it’s important to say that.”
Then, Mayor Bass touched on the subject of “the violence and damage” caused by the riots, which she again described as “unacceptable,” saying, “It is not going to be tolerated, and individuals will be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. No individual that is involved in vandalism should think because they went home that night that they’re off scot-free, because investigations will take place.”
Embarrassingly, the mayor then admitted that the “extensive vandalism downtown,” specifying “the graffiti that is just blanking a number of blocks” might stop the city from hosting the World Cup, saying, “This is about beautifying our city and bringing our city together. I am calling on business leaders, community leaders, faith leaders to come together downtown in the next few days to talk about how we are going to clean up the city.”
The mayor added that “city workers are already out there removing the graffiti,” but she clarified, “This is so extensive it’s going to take community-wide involvement.” The mayor then said, “We need people from all over the city to come to downtown and to help with this effort.”

This totally ignores the question of, “How did it get this way?”.
If it is embarrassing, why didn’t you stop it when it was happening?
It’s like company comes and the house is a mess.
You are embarrassed to let them see how you really live.
Keep the house clean and you never have to worry about it....................
But...”celebrate diversity”!
L.A.'s newest tourist attraction? Abandoned high-rises covered in graffiti
LOS ANGELES — Few people walking around downtown could look away from the spray-painted towers that have become an unlikely attraction in a city known for spectacle.
Crowds surrounded the popular Kobe Bryant statue outside Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday, and dozens of concertgoers lined up early for a rock show inside.
But the real draw for many near the intersection of 11th and Figueroa streets was the colorful graffiti decorating 30 floors of an abandoned real estate project.
bass was elected in 2022... this story is from feb 2024... they don't care how it looks.
There was noise about having someone buy the property, remove the graffiti and develope the property, but I don't know what happened...
Don’t bother cleaning up the mess that was Las Angeles as few spectators will want to come.
Many players don’t want to come.
The 2026 World Cup will have 104 games played in 16 cities in three countries, with the U.S., Mexico and Canada having submitted a joint bid. The U.S. is the primary host, with Mexico having three sites and Canada just one (Toronto). The finals will be at MetLife Stadium in NJ.
LA is just one of the host cities and could be swapped out without missing a beat. Over 40 cities submitted bids. I personally don’t like FIFA’s final list for the U.S. sites, which suffers from BiCoastal Disease. Dallas, Houston, Kansas City and Atlanta were the non-coastal cities picked, but there is nothing in the Midwest, the Great Lakes region, or the west other than the coastal cities. Minneapolis, Chicago, Nashville and Minneapolis were among the cities cut. Add Denver, St Louis, Columbus and Cincinnati as cities that might be considered.
When one breaks this down across 16 venues, it’s not that big a lift to move any single site with this much lead time. FIFA has a 40,000 seat minimum on stadium size. That is a very low bar in the U.S. Beyond that, we’re talking a 40-70,000 size crowd, so it’s equivalent to a well attended D1 college or pro football game. Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State or The Ohio State University could do this without batting an eye.
Stephen Miller got the utterly incompetent LA Mayor good this morning:
"Stephen Miller Buries Leftist LA Mayor Karen Bass with a Devastating Picture After She Gets Triggered By Miller Needling Her for Refusing to Cooperate with ICE"
Bass posted photos of the J-6ers:
And Stephan Miller countered with this:
"I think this is the photo you're looking for"
But, stupid voters + vote fraud will put her back into office when she runs again. Count on it.
Riiiiigghht, Karen. 🙄
They are obviously MAGA Trump supporters trying to embarrass me!..................
Bust 1000-500 graffiti people, make them sandblast/repaint/refinish during the day during their prison terms of 2 years.
Need to move the Olympics now while they still can.
its far from just graffiti that’s littering up LA
I wonder if this is connected to the fact that the DOJ just sued LA for breaking the law as a sanctuary city. Or did I read that correctly? I think the DOJ is also going after SF, Chicago, NYC, and others. I wonder what their defense will be.
“...I wonder what their defense will be....”
Orange Man Bad...................
LOL. Unfortunate for sanctuaries, it will have to be much more complex and I don't think they will win.
Reason: Title 8 USC and all its sub-chapters. They are simply breaking law. Too bad it's gotten to this point, but I believe the President is taking the correct avenue. I also think it will be resolved before the end of his Presidency. Within the next USSC term, I believe the unlawful activity of sanctuary will be moot, much like a lot of their recent decisions. Of course, it will be 6-3.
I agree. Swapping out one of 16 venues as a World Cup site would be easy. And even if LA remains a site, we would be talking a few standalone games in a stadium with crowds in the 50-70,000 range — and much less if the top teams aren’t slotted into LA. Mexoco, Argentina or Brazil would draw a crowd, but are Mexicans in LA going to turn out for European or Asian teams? For the World Cup, LA is basically the fourth Mexican venue, with photo ops for Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom thrown in.
In any event, a single stadium can be cleaned up and the area secured. The Olympics are different, a massive presence over a much larger footprint.
Are Mexicans going to show up if they fear deportation?
THE SAME NOISE COMES FROM A TINY DOG——
NOISE ONLY
NO SUBSTANCE
WHEN COVID SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING-—THE 5-5-7 lane freeways in LA were still busy—but at highway speeds.
THE SMOG was worse than ever.
