You are overreacting and oversimplifying. That you didn't read the links shows that you are projecting.

It's like creating a chimp and calling it a Neanderthal. That's just a hush-hush government contract they have on the side: remake extra large and more intelligent chimps. They'll call them yetis.

Ever feel like a drop of water putting trying to put out a forest fire?
I like your project. It would have to be massively expanded to make a difference. Then there’s the maintenance after you and the following generations are gone.
Probably won’t happen in a free country.

GEICO is funding this because the more intellligent chimps will be able to order car insurance.

I like your project. It would have to be massively expanded to make a difference. Absolutely true. I'm just trying to keep the genetics going so that we can learn about potential benefits and/or uses, of which I have found several. I believe the only means within reach is to do that on a sample space basis, and that it must be done within the next century or so or we'll lose the foundations of the soil system.

GEICO is funding this because the more intellligent chimps will be able to order car insurance. Understandably, the LUDDITES (Lyft and Uber Driver & Delivery International Transportation Entrepreneurs Society) are up in arms about this.

I used to work with a guy who enjoyed pointing out that "the La Brea Tar Pits" can be translated as "the The Tar Tar Pits"... Not only that, what's contained there isn't even tar. It's asphalt.
