Lack of editing or deletion capability is a feature not a bug. It forces (or should force) people to think about what they’re going to post before posting.
Ok, let me address these one at a time.
“What about having an italicized or box that shows what the previous comment was without having to scroll back and see what the other person wrote?”
Well the “reply form page” has the first parties text in it for you. As for someone they replied to already most times it is common courtesy for them to Quote the words of the comment they are replying to. Unfortunately they don’t always do that.
So if you click on “To X” comment number you do not need to scroll, it will just zip you right to it. And then the browser back arrow will return you back to right where you were again.
“or have the ability to add a hyperlinks to go right to the comment you are responding to.”
Same thing... it will automatically add “to x” so you and others can zip right to the post you commented to after you post your reply.
Now if you want to share your/that post or someone else’s post as a hyperlink in another post just “right” click on the post number and will copy the direct link to your/other posts to paste elsewhere as you like.
“Maybe something like hyperlinks to companies websites when talking about whatever this company did or that company did with reference to new products and services offered by Coca-Cola or whatever.”
Unfortunately that is up to the due diligence of who made the post to add links for more information or not. But does this place really need the webscript to start shoving ad hyperlinks at us just based on keywords used in conversations here?
That would be advertising, and that is a no no around here.... :)
But I think right clicking on the post number to copy and paste the direct hyperlink to it will help you greatly. It has been kind of a hidden trick quite a few did not know worked that way.
Bump
We have lost many freepers and not signing up many new ones
The market is the market.
This is the only place with a consistent educational conversation but it is being drowned out by drive by postings.
It is up to each of us to improve the conversation.
The truth is a rare commodity. There is still more here than
any other place. Maybe truth is relative.
Bump. Too many people fail to preview and think before posting.
Maybe it is to you, but you didn't invest your time, your own money and years of service to set this site up and run this site for as many years as Jim Robinson has. You've been disrespectful to Jim by saying the site is broke, yet here you remain.
If you don't like the site the way it is, go somewhere else, or start your own forum online. Your argument is moot since the majority of the people who have posted on this thread already, have booed your idea down.
And yet I’m not. Classic deflection. Attack the messenger instead of evaluating the message.
With Cynwoody’s FR posting form enhancer and tree viewer browser addons you wouldn’t need to use HTML or scroll around to see which posts people are replying to. Highly recommended.
Oh boy. We’re old, Antiquated and we’re going to do it the way we’ve always done it because by golly that’s just the way things should be. Yikes.
HTML is your friend. I'm 78, and have no problem adding links and photos with the system that has been in place since I've been here all these years. Lazy people want gimmicks to make things easier for them.
I really love the forum format... far above all other forum formats I have stumbled across.
100%
if you don’t like FR then open your wallet and start your own site. See how far you get.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Sorry but don’t know what that means. :D
Screw outdated. Not everybody is caught up in what you think is progress. Many of us have been around long enough to know that many things that used to be easy, and are now considered outdated by people like you, were far easier to use, and worked far better than the crap that is shoved down our throats today. Change is not always for the better.
WTF is that?
