Changes could be coming to Southwest Airlines over the next few years.

While at an airport industry conference this week, Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan spoke about the future of the Dallas-based airline. His goal is to stop losing customers to competitors.

"Whatever customers need in 2025, 2030, we won’t take any of that off the table," Jordan told CNBC. "We know we send customers to other airlines because there’s some things you might want that you can’t get on us. That includes things like lounges, like true premium, like flying long-haul international. I want to send fewer and fewer customers to another airline."

Speaking of airport lounges, Jordan mentioned Southwest's familiarity with Nashville International Airport. He said, "Nashville loves us, and we know we have Nashville customers that want lounges."

Ummm, not *these* stewardesses...

And get rid of the “fancy boy” flight attendants.

Bring back the cuties.

And bring back dress codes for passengers.

“You get assigned a boarding group and a spot in that boarding group. It works fine.”

Being phased out.

Singer is another US management grifter: buy a company with a proven track record, cut costs by ruining service, raising prices and alienating customers. Report temporarily rising profits & sell stock or exercise options. Basically a sophisticated pump and dump.

Cash out before the company goes bankrupt: it's now the American way.

The best pre-flight safety talk I have ever heard was on Southwest, delivered by a 30ish African American guy who was flat out funny. He covered the necessary information — “for those of you who have not been in an automobile in the last 50 years, this is a seatbelt ....” — briskly enough, and left us wanting more. The man should’ve been a standup comic.

SW needs to use their 737 Max 8,9,10 with ETOPs certs and the legs to cross the Atlantic and deep into Latin America across the Caribbean.

I don't think the 737 Max's can make it to the east coast of the US from London. They can make it to St. Johns or Halifax Canada. The AB 321 can make it to Boston and maybe JFK from London, but that is about it..

I use Spokane, WA and San Jose, CA a lot. Both are smaller regional airports that have been upgraded, expanded and revamped the past 20 years (longer for SJC). Very nice facilities and easy to get in and out.

The A220 is able to provide 19 inch wide seats in its 2-3 row configuration, although it does not have trans-Atlantic range.

There is a video on YouTube that shows an entire (existing Southwest 737) plane with their new seats. It shows that what will be their new premium seat has legroom from the knee to the forward seatback that is as long as a smartphone :

SWA lost its mojo by the early 2020’s. Many of the things that kept the fanboys going were dropped or cut back and now they are as bad as the rest of the big airlines and not much special about them anymore...

Yep, been going on a long time. Many a good company was destroyed that way and many more will fall in the future.

As part of the IMPROVED Southwest, they are shrinking legroom by 1” in the newly created coach sections, and using that room for more expensive seats in first class and business class (not sure what Southwest is naming their new sections).

A220 would probably be my preference these days

Though I liked the 737 300-800 regular series

Thanks. I haven’t been following their changes closely enough. That is bad news.

I didn’t realize they were going to assigned seats, shrinking seat room in coach and adding premium sections. Ugh. Not good.

The most important is to hire and retain the most qualified pilots.
