Back in the dark ages (1962) I was in high school and it was during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Everyone was a little on edge especially the day Kennedy's ultimatum was due and we were confronting Russian ships heading to Cuba. It was a beautiful sunny day where I lived and I was sitting next to one of those big plate glass windows the school buildings used to have when totally out of the blue, the loudest crack of lightning you ever heard cuts loose. You cannot drill your way out of this resource depletion curve the Permian has to keep drilling at full tilt to keep the rate as it is the decline curves for shale wells are peak 180s and than declines as Gemini to show you a typical type cure of a Permian basin shale well.

Solvent replacement can sweep some to the production bore if you drill offset lateral injection wells for solvents or supercritical CO2...be ready for$$$$$$
