June 26 (Reuters) - Chinese-owned GE Appliances said on Thursday it will spend $490 million to shift production of some washing machines to the U.S. from China as it rebalances its factory footprint amid extreme trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies. The washers will be built at the company’s "Appliance Park" in Louisville, Kentucky, a sprawling complex of factories that serves as its U.S. hub.
The company, a division of China’s Haier, said it will add 800 workers after U.S. production begins in early 2027. The Kentucky government will provide up to $113.5 million in tax incentives for the project.

“Trump repealed that.”
i know ... now the manufacturers just need to be willing to make them ... i suppose it would take just one manufacturer to make ones that work, and the rest would be forced to fall in line or lose business ....
Looking at Speed Queen yesterday as I might be in the market.
They're pricey. About $2700 for a matching set. And while they get rave reviews on reliability and durability, a lot of people complained about the quality of the wash.
Speed Queens are designed for multi-residential use like apartment complexes and laundromats where they need to have quick cycles (30 minute wash and dry times) and are pretty much running nonstop 24/7.
Since hair bought GE appliances, they are terrible. Do not buy!
I have a Speed Queen washer and dryer.
I would suggest you buy the model with the dial and NO lid lock. All the lid lock gizmos fail. I fixed mine by hard wiring a hack I found on YouTube.
Since then they now make a washing machine with NO LID LOCK and a dial to change the system instead of a board.
Meaning that is does not have a circuit board to fail.
My SQ dryer has buttons to turn it on and a dial to change the cycles just like they all did back in the 1960s.
I have a 15 year old Maytag(Whirlpool,Amana, KitchenAid are all made in the same factory in Iowa) French door Fridge. It does NOT have ice or water through the door. Which is the number one repair issue on all fridge/freezers. IF you really need ice open the drawer on the bottom and get them out of the tray/bucket. I have to open the door to dispense cold filtered water(Oh the Humanity!).
My friend who owns an independent appliance dealership advised me of this. He also told me to buy either a Kitchen Aid or Bosch Dishwasher. I have had a Stainless Steel Kitchen Aid for 15 years. No problems. Again MADE IN IOWA.
WHEN DID GE SELL OUT TO CHINA????
I USE INTERSTATE.
GE Appliances in particular washing machines and dryers have been crap for quite some time.

Do you mean Neutron Jack?
The first washer we got when we were married lasted 30+ years. Granted, at the last it had issues and we were filling it with a hose and turning the knob with a vice grip but the motor and tub were still good. You could almost hear it salute its replacement and say “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race.”
In that same time frame we went thru 4 dishwashers, 3 refrigerators and 3 stoves.
Made by Whirlpool.
I made Kenmore fridges one summer at the Whirlpool plant in Ft. Smith Ark.
Got $7.50 and hour when minimum wage was $2.35.
I had a Maytag washer for about 30 years. Hardly ever had to fix anything. It finally crashed so I got a new Maytag. I know everything about it because I have replaced so many parts on it. Plastic gears, junk electronics, etc. I’m watching garage sales and estate auctions looking for an old one again.
It just won’t die to my wife’s chagrin and my happiness. And she’s practical enough that she won’t demand new ones if the old ones work lol.
I may have you beat. I have a lady Kenmore dryer that is still going. 1960’s. I can longer find parts lists for it. This is very similar to it except mine is white. It actually has a sensor that shuts down the dryer based on the humidity of the air that is going out. No Timer.

Google: parts for kenmore
Many links. Maybe they have the part you need.
My sister has an old GE stove from the 1950’s that was being given away a few years ago. She was able to find new parts for it such as the oven element and even the fireproof insulation (mice had invaded).
That's right. Buy a Speed Queen washer and dryer. Discover what clean really feels like. A vastly superior product of the USA.
I would not allow any Chinese company to locate any production in the U.S. and would keep high tariffs on all Chinese imports. For economic reasons? No, geopolitical.
