“โ€œOn June 20, 2023, Dallas letter carrier Eugene Gates Jr. collapsed and died on his mail route. The heat index that day was 117 degrees. His wife said the vehicle he was driving that day was not air-conditioned.”

Non air-conditioned USPS delivery vehicles has always been the case as far back as I can remember.

My dad was a letter carrier back in the 80s and drove a jeep.

However, lately the USPS in my neighborhood had been driving vans that appear to have AC, but not every day.

How can you tell the vans donโ€™t have AC every day?

I was a mailman for awhile back in the early 60’s in a suburb bordering Chicago. 7 mile routes pulling a golf cart and two leather pouches full of mail which had to be replenished periodically from relay boxes. A good 6 hour hike everyday. Ruined my feet for the rest of my life and now I have two collapsed ankles to prove it. Weather was everywhere from perfectly comfortable, to rain, brutal heat or equally brutal cold. Builds character....althougb I largely missed out on that one.๐Ÿ˜Ž But I was only 22.
