Don’t question other freepers military service.

1. I didn't.

2. Don't tell me what I can and cannot do.

3. Go away.

Yes, there’s a couple of posters who think that I believe.

I think they just get drunk and the words they are reading get blurry.

Goes to show Massie & Rand have no idea what the powers of the President are and what their own powers & responsibilities are.
Perhaps if they did they could have gotten something done in their years in Congress rather than just posturing & grandstanding.

It was done properly.
The President has authority as Commander-in-Chief to launch targeted strikes without congressional approval, particularly for urgent threats, under Article II, Section 2. Historical examples include Clinton’s 1999 Serbia strikes, Obama’s 2011 Libya campaign, and Trump’s 2020 Soleimani strike.

Article I, Section 8 gives Congress war declaration power, implying oversight for major actions. The War Powers Resolution requires congressional notification within 48 hours and limits engagements to 60 days without approval.

He dropped pallets of $$$$ on Iran instead of bombs.

Fuzz, if Trump didn’t act, you’d be criticizing him for that. For you, whatever Trump does is wrong.

So IYO Iran, who has repeatedly avowed Death to America and has targeted Americans in the past, would not be an existential threat as a nuclear power? Trump thought they would be and he acted to remove that threat. That belief justified his actions under Article 2. There is nothing that says we have to let Iran attack us w/a nuclear weapon before we can act.

An authorization to go to war. That is a whole different kettle of fish & has different requirements.

No. Trump said no deals. Deals are no longer on the table. The only option is full surrender, per POTUS.

How is Iran going to wage this war and why would Israel not continue wiping them out?
The sleeper cells potentially in the US need to be dealt with if they emerge. To cower and be controlled by the possibility is as foolish as giving in to blackmail.

Sorry, but you missed my point. I am not arguing against thumping Iran. I am arguing against it being done without Congress first voting on it.

The Founders were clear on this. They separated the awesome power to make war. The president is the commander in-chief, and controls the military. But Congress was given the power to get the military involved in the first place.

Yes, I am familiar with the War Powers Act. It applies here. But that Act shouldn’t have be. Congress gave away its clear constitutional powers there.

Ah, but was this attack an act of war, or was it something less? That’s an important question that needs to be debated. We don’t need an imperial presidency. And we also don’t need a hamstrung president.

That is a grim, pessimistic, and mistaken a view of the matter.

Maybe he didn’t make it clear enough the first 10 times he said it. I expect there will be another reminder for the skyscreamers.
