Gen X - rise and contribute - this is us

Ten or twenty bucks a month will keep this thing going. I've donated anonymously back since 1997 when I found this site. When this the only place on the interwebs reporting on Xlinton's malfeasance.

True, the site is now dominated by crippled, angry, old men, and fat, blue-haired old bitties whose nipples drag on the floor when they walk.

Aside from all that, please consider donating to Free Republic.

I've set up an automatic payment, by check, through my online banking/bill pay. Mailed to:

Free Republic, LLC PO Box 9771 Fresno, CA 93794

Because the online payment system FOOKIN SUCKS!!!! Jim Robinson doesn't give a shit about how hard it is to donate online. Impossible.

Just send a check or do an auto-pay monthly to the address in Fresno. Let's keep this thing rolling!

The Boomers are dying in swarms. Gen-X needs to step up to the plate and make sure places like this stay around. So Gen-Y and Gen-Z have a place to find news and information.

I have been on this site for 20 years, and you have been here longer, but...I don’t recall crossing your path before, which has happened with other Freepers on occasion. We apparently travel in different circles. Out of curiosity, I looked at your posting history which I had little knowledge of, and positively appreciated much of it.

You are most likely aware, if your post is any indication, that many people are understandably suspicious of people who say something which might be deemed offensive or manipulative, but when reference is made to the supposedly offensive statement, come back with an “I was only kidding” response.

I would not approach it the way you did, but your effort to pump up any donations is a presentable excuse for any supposed transgressions.

Lol. I’m gen x and my lady’s nipples still fit nicely tucked into her belt. Thanks for being the spoon stirring my coffee. Sometimes getting people grumpy means they are now paying attention. Have a great day.

Amazing. I recall seeing something recently from Sowell, and I was astonished he can still put something out.

A while back, he came up in discussion, and I wondered how many of his books I had and off the top of my head, I thought It might be maybe four or five. When I actually counted them, I was very surprised to find I had 13 of his books, far, FAR more than any other single author whose works I own (favorites underscored):

  1. A Conflict of Visions: Ideological Origins of Political Struggles (1987...my favorite)

  2. Compassion Versus Guilt and Other Essays (1987)

  3. Inside American Education: The Decline, the Deception, the Dogmas (1993)

  4. The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy (1995...my third favorite)

  5. Late-Talking Children (1997)

  6. Basic Economics: A Citizen's Guide to the Economy (2000...my second favorite)

  7. A Personal Odyssey (2000)

  8. Applied Economics: Thinking Beyond Stage One (2003...my fourth favorite)

  9. Economic Facts and Fallacies (2011)

  10. The Housing Boom and Bust (2009)

  11. Intellectuals and Society (2009...my fifth favorite)

  12. Dismantling America and Other Controversial Essays (2010)

  13. Intellectuals and Race (2013)

I find it interesting that people on this forum criticize him for his views on trade and for his distaste for Donald Trump, though I understand both criticisms in their context. (Thomas Sowell developed intellectually primarily in a time when "free trade" was assumed by all when in reality, it wasn't...especially when Communist China significantly entered the world stage economically in the early-mid Nineties)

As noted above, my favorite is A Conflict of Visions: Ideological Origins of Political Struggles which solidified much of my life impressions of the Left and explains their behavior better than any other work I have read) and my second favorite Basic Economics: A Citizen's Guide to the Economy which I often give as a gift to people who I think it can have an effect on.

The man is a gem. As you can see from my Freep Page, he is someone whose hand I would like to shake in thanks, but...I suspect that will never happen. (I never got to shake Admiral Stockdale's hand, either...)

Mostly peaceful and mostly sane peoole on Free Republic.

What else is going to make you chuckle, give you a snippet of what’s going on that could matter, AND let’s you come across a right thinking fellow American - all on your phone, and hardly any YELLING words.

If I only had Free Republic in college as I plopped down on the hallwsy floor beside my spinning backpack, outside the locked classroom door instead of the student paper TOILET PAPER to read....or my library civil war/vietnam war history book.

See! Hardly any yelling.

“There’s anecdotal evidence that a number of longtime Freepers have disappeared from this site. We don’t know why they left. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the general tone around here has driven some folks away.”

I think that many are dying. We just aren’t aware because nobody in their world knows of the connection to FR.

If I go, Sis will post here, and vice versa. We we go together, then ...

We are ALL works in progress, FRiend!

Anyone who thinks they aren’t, is likely already lost and in need of saving, IMO.

There should be an FR hall of fame built around Jim Robinson’s house. All the people that leave us for a while can bequeth their phones or hard drives as a time capsule. A period in which a rag tag group of great Americans stood strong.

Great Idea!
I have been addicted to this site for 30 years, although my posts and comments are very infrequent. It is my wake up call in the morning, and I frequently check in during the day for breaking news (usually first here).

I am able to quickly skip over the too frequent ad-hominem attacks (the participants should duel it out in some distant field in Oregon) and the occasional anti Catholic attacks.

I shall increase my automatic monthly donation.

All right, all right, so much insistence...I am Gen X and I just contributed. I started reading Free Republic around 2005, and except for some brief few months, I never logged in or made comments because I wasn’t contributing. Now that I am, I will start commenting. My first comment is - I agree with some posts here, and a previous one of one member who left this site recently and stated his / her reasons in detail: it has lost a little of the good old, healthy, intellectual discussion. It has become a little of “get lost”, “don’t listen to the judges”, “so what”.

Let me be the first to welcome you! I’m glad to have you aboard.

I hope you find being logged in very rewarding. Bring some of that ol’ timey intellectual discussion. It still happens but sometimes we have to look for it.

I’ve seen you around. I appreciate your contributions.

Often I get a chuckle about generational friction here. I simply used that as a lever to raise donations as we close on this quarter’s finish line.

I don’t care if FReepers are 80, or 20, or 60, or 16. I value (most) all of them. I have learned SO MUCH over the decades here from wise intellectuals. Most of the time, I never know the ages of the posters unless they make a point of it.

My age is deliberately a little cloudy. Boomers, Gen-x/y/z, Millenials - I welcome all for discussion.

Thank you for your family’s service to this great country.

What I see is that you alienated the age group that has been the backbone of this site.

You have an exorbitant idea of your own cleverness; you come off as stupid and emotionally immature.

Ma'am, your criticism is duly noted. I shall endeavor to improve.

(As personal attacks go, this one is kind of funny - thanks!)

Do you expect people to be silent when you insult them?

It’s not exactly a ‘personal attack’ when people object to your own overt crudeness here.
