I am for the parade today. I did not want to deal with the security. We are at Mount Vernon to celebrate.

Father was an army poet. His book ‘Old Soldiers’ Drums’ came out in 1933.

https://iment.com/maida/family/father/oldsoldiersdrums/p6-7-contents.htm#toc

One of his poems that’s a favorite of mine is of the same name as his book.

OLD SOLDIERS’ DRUMS

I’m just too old for drilling
I can’t hike anymore;
So I’m bound for the soldiers’ graveyard
Behind an office door.
They sing - “Old soldiers never die.”
We don’t; we live on crumbs -
The shrilling, splendid bugles
An’ the thunder of the drums!

I won’t do Guard in a snowstorm
An’ I won’t hafta go an’ fire;
It’s just messin’ around an office
An’ waiting to retire.
“Approved per First Indorsement ...”
An’ through the window comes
The music of a Guardmount
An’ the cadenced, throbbin’ drums!

Twenty-three and a butt in the Doughboys;
Why, I’ve hiked a million miles!
But they said my age couldn’t stand it
An’ they detailed me to the files!
This work is nice for some men
Who can take it as it comes.
But you know their hearts ain’t achin’
For the pullin’, poundin’ drums!

D.S. 1/4C. an’ a non-combatant!
When there’s guys tha’d give their life
To piddle around an office
An’ go home at night to the wife.
But I’ll get back to formation;
There’s a day that always comes:
An’ I’ll ride on a painted cassion
With the muffled, sobbin’ drums!

Thumbs down... too much like what is done China, Russia, N. Korea, Iran... Get my drift?

I don’t think we need to see to believe we have more, or better.

Like Darryl Worley said “have you forgotten“……

“What about our freedom, and this piece of ground? We didn’t get to keep them by backing down.”

From a different time… but part of the same war.

You’re missing the point. It’s OK to be proud of the military, the ‘60’s is over.

Bad look at the moment you are accused of being a dictator etc. He should have gone to an Army base and done something there for their celebration.

One of his weak points from his TV days. He thinks a grand spectacle is always a positive.
Parades like this are for after a big war concludes, etc.

America is not in a martial “lets go find a war” mood right now. He wasn’t elected for that.

The parade isn't meant to 'prove' anything - it's meant to celebrate 250 years of patriotism and dedication on the part of our military. They deserve commemoration.

Meh, kinda, kinda not. Trump has been prattling on about wanting a “big military parade” since his first term when he saw one in France.

He found a date. But his purpose was just a big parade. And on his birthday. Those parades are to celebrate some big victory at the end of a war, or to jazz people up to support a new war. It’s a common feature of authoritarian governments.

He wasn’t elected to be the warrior in chief. He was elected on a “enough of war for now” platform.

So, it happens to be his birthday. It’s also flag day and the 250th birthday of the army.

I don’t have a problem with it at all. From what I’ve seen of the activities so far, everyone’s having a great time.

""""Parades like this are for after a big war concludes, etc.""""

Nonsense, they are also for things like presidential inaugurations, so the 250th birthday of the United States Army makes total sense.

Here is Eisenhower's inauguration parade.

Here is JFK's Inauguration.
