Hmmm. Were they cracked to get the marrow out?

Cooking large hunks of meat with the bone in takes much longer then cooking small pieces of boneless meat.

If the bones were not cracked my hunch would be that they were in a hurry for some reason.

Otherwise they would not have left the marrow.
