LIMERICK TWP., Pa. - Three high school students were among three people killed in a crash that investigators say happened after a theft at a Target in Limerick Township.
Owen J. Roberts School District Superintendent Will Stout delivered the tragic news about the students' deaths in a letter to families on Wednesday.
A fourth person who was involved in the crash was taken to the hospital and their condition remains unknown at this time.
What we know:
Police responded to reports of a theft at a Target on Ridge Pike in Royerford around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The suspected vehicle fled, but the driver lost control and crashed minutes later on the 300 block of Ridge Pike.
Officials say three people inside the vehicle, two males and a female, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A fourth male was taken to a local hospital.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office identified the deceased victims as Gabriel Cooper, Nasir Youk and Singiyah Newswan, all 17 years old.
According to the Owen J. Roberts School District, two of the victims were current high school students, and one is a previous student. The fourth passenger, who was seriously injured and taken to Temple University Hospital, is also a student, the district says.
SKYFOX was live as a heavy police and medical presence lingered through most of the night and early morning.
A completely destroyed vehicle was also towed from the scene, along with a police vehicle.
What they're saying:
Owen J. Roberts Superintendent Will Stout on Wednesday confirmed that more than one district student was killed in the crash.
"It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter and let you know that earlier this morning we learned that there was a fatal car accident last evening involving Owen J. Roberts High School students," Stout wrote.
The district has made grief counseling available to students and families as the school community navigates the tragedy.
"Please keep our fellow Owen J. Roberts High School families in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time," Stout added.
Leah Rose, who graduated from Owen J. Roberts High School last year, brought flowers to the scene with her friends. She says she knows all four teenagers involved in the crash.
"They’re funny they have a great sense of humor they loved to dance, they danced all the time at school, all the time," she said. "They’re just good kids, they didn’t deserve this, they didn’t deserve this. It cost them their life and they’re kids, they’re babies."
Apothecary Hair Salon, along West Ridge Pike, says their sign and retaining wall were destroyed in the crash. The co-owner says the headlight from the car went through their window, and across the business.
"I wasn’t quite prepared for what was actually here, it was awful," said Erin Dolalas. "This can be rebuilt. These things are material but families can’t be rebuilt, so it’s definitely sad."
A next-door neighbor, Liz Jurus, says she was home and heard the crash.
"It’s just ridiculous to me that the police would chase three people in the vehicle for suspected theft of items at Target," she said.
Nearby business owners have different opinions on the alleged moments leading up to the crash.
"I know the police, they had to do their job, but I don’t know that high-tailing it in a car was the answer," said Robert Spahr, owner of Spahr’s Archives on West Ridge Pike. "Hopefully this is a lesson learned for any other potential perpetrators."

IQ of the world just went up.
Thanks, Yogi!
I would have used the phrase “the teens experienced a predictable outcome”...instead of “tragic news”...well, it is tragic that humans are so stupid as to put themselves into life threatening situations..and then grieve when the worst happens
There are 3 students dead in a crash.
They stole from target, alas.
There once were 4.
and now 3 are no more.
Turns out all 4 were trash.
In addition, most stores have video on the interior and exterior parking lots. Same with all the adjacent businesses etc. Unless these petty theft suspects were in a stolen vehicle, it would not take a seasoned investigator to figure out who the suspect/suspects were, especially in a smallish rural type venue, with school age suspects.
Anyone notice they did not once mention what the alleged stolen item/items were? I’d guess they didn’t mention this because if they told the public it was some underwear and a bag of Cheetos, the public would be outraged.
If the initial report would have been armed robbery, shots fired, people down etc, at the Target store that would have been somewhat acceptable to chase dangerous armed people through the public streets. But a petty theft call? High speed pursuit? No bueno!
True enough, but if I'm not mistaken this happened near Doylestown PA.
Bad judgment all around. 4 speeding police cars behind these kids, according to the video, any one of which could have crashed or hit an innocent bystander. The risk/benefit calculation here is pretty simple. Nothing in Target store is irreplaceable. Three children are irreplaceable and their loved ones are heartbroken. Plus the loved ones of police involved are aware, "there but for the grace of God..."
They were turning their lives around right at the time of the crash!
Ha.
Death penalty is said by leftist professors to not deter crime. These are certainly discouraged from more.
In 2020 young thieves hit three different Target Stores here in Michigan with a vehicle smashing the glass front doors.
I remember seeing the particle boards over one before the police released the report of one of these. I thought “Why would Target do such a messy job of replacing the doors.?
A black woman coworker before I retired said: “Then they do those crime stories and say there are no suspects I picture the criminals sitting at home watching the news and cheering
and giving high fives.”
METRO DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) - Three Metro Detroit Target stores were bitten by thieves, according to authorities.
It happened Monday morning around 3 a.m. at an Allen Park, Woodhaven and Dearborn Target store.
Police say the thieves smashed the front door and took electronics.
Authorities are now looking for a silver Dodge Durango in connection to the crimes.
As of late Monday morning, police had no suspects in custody.
Of course it happened in PA. Muslim kids were part of those responsible. We don’t need too many of them here.
THIS hits the nail on the head. With today’s technology, there is no need to employ high speed chases that endanger all involved, especially those who are innocent but just end up in the way.
I have not either, but a witness implied that was what occurred. In addition, if the petty theft suspects were not being chased, why drive at high speed through town? That does not make much sense.
Good one.
There used to be a cartoon meme of a dog and the back of a car.
What Happened When A Dog Chased A Car
And Finally Caught Up With One.
Yeah, that got my attention, too.
New media: Trump tariffs lead to teens' families being broke after high prices on food. Teens try to help.
I guess it's 4% now.
“Who edits these publications?”
Not an edit problem, but the article says the parents were notified by a letter from the school superintendent. That’s a peculiar way of such notifications.
Did the getaway car have a black interior?
Lie much? There were no innocent victims. The thieving kids in the car were the ones who died.
And how would the cops know the exact items being stolen? All they got was a call about thieves robbing a Target. They could've been using knives to rob people of their wallets and phones. They could have been adults. The cops only know that there was a call for help, and the thieving scum ran from the cops in a car, and refused to pull over, and decided to drive at highly dangerous speeds, and were endangering themselves and the police and the public by running away in a reckless manner. So YES, THAT IS WHAT YOU TELL THEIR PARENTS!!! Too bad, so sad, next time teach your children better than to steal, then to run from police, then to drive at dangerous speeds, then to endanger the world simply because they're trying to avoid proper consequences for their actions.
We the People are not going to encourage more and worse crime by refusing to chase those who endanger the public with reckless driving while evading arrest.
And none of them involved a police chase, either.
Perhaps you should comfort yourself by speculating that these mutants would have crashed into that retaining wall even if nobody was chasing them.
