LIMERICK TWP., Pa. - Three high school students were among three people killed in a crash that investigators say happened after a theft at a Target in Limerick Township.
Owen J. Roberts School District Superintendent Will Stout delivered the tragic news about the students' deaths in a letter to families on Wednesday.
A fourth person who was involved in the crash was taken to the hospital and their condition remains unknown at this time.
What we know:
Police responded to reports of a theft at a Target on Ridge Pike in Royerford around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The suspected vehicle fled, but the driver lost control and crashed minutes later on the 300 block of Ridge Pike.
Officials say three people inside the vehicle, two males and a female, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A fourth male was taken to a local hospital.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office identified the deceased victims as Gabriel Cooper, Nasir Youk and Singiyah Newswan, all 17 years old.
According to the Owen J. Roberts School District, two of the victims were current high school students, and one is a previous student. The fourth passenger, who was seriously injured and taken to Temple University Hospital, is also a student, the district says.
SKYFOX was live as a heavy police and medical presence lingered through most of the night and early morning.
A completely destroyed vehicle was also towed from the scene, along with a police vehicle.
What they're saying:
Owen J. Roberts Superintendent Will Stout on Wednesday confirmed that more than one district student was killed in the crash.
"It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter and let you know that earlier this morning we learned that there was a fatal car accident last evening involving Owen J. Roberts High School students," Stout wrote.
The district has made grief counseling available to students and families as the school community navigates the tragedy.
"Please keep our fellow Owen J. Roberts High School families in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time," Stout added.
Leah Rose, who graduated from Owen J. Roberts High School last year, brought flowers to the scene with her friends. She says she knows all four teenagers involved in the crash.
"They’re funny they have a great sense of humor they loved to dance, they danced all the time at school, all the time," she said. "They’re just good kids, they didn’t deserve this, they didn’t deserve this. It cost them their life and they’re kids, they’re babies."
Apothecary Hair Salon, along West Ridge Pike, says their sign and retaining wall were destroyed in the crash. The co-owner says the headlight from the car went through their window, and across the business.
"I wasn’t quite prepared for what was actually here, it was awful," said Erin Dolalas. "This can be rebuilt. These things are material but families can’t be rebuilt, so it’s definitely sad."
A next-door neighbor, Liz Jurus, says she was home and heard the crash.
"It’s just ridiculous to me that the police would chase three people in the vehicle for suspected theft of items at Target," she said.
Nearby business owners have different opinions on the alleged moments leading up to the crash.
"I know the police, they had to do their job, but I don’t know that high-tailing it in a car was the answer," said Robert Spahr, owner of Spahr’s Archives on West Ridge Pike. "Hopefully this is a lesson learned for any other potential perpetrators."

(Lurch groan)
Won’t have to worry about the behavior of their lineage!!
That’s something that many need to understand, they put other innocents at danger by their actions...
“They’re just good kids,......
Except this one time.

No names or pix?
Well. PA is Amish country
Actions have consequences.
Apparently, these children had gotten to an age where that FACT had not taken hold.
I will reluctantly play the way back when card.
When I was a kid growing up, I was daily given the messaging by family, church, and school that actions had consequences, often quite dire.
Of course there was no social media or video games suggesting actions might not bring about dire consequences.
The police aren’t the problem here. Making excuses for bad behavior is for liberals...
Did they do anything worthwhile while at school? Or just gyrate to smutty ditties passing for music? Sounds like they didn't do much in life of lasting value, so they rolled the dice stealing from a store and fleeing the police. And lost.
“It’s just ridiculous to me that the police would chase three people in the vehicle for suspected theft of items at Target,” she said”
Society lost aspiring rappers and aeronautical engineers. Stupid women like this are why teens think they can loot and plunder. Well too.bad. stupid parents raised them to be stupid thieves and thugs. They now exist as a memory to hopefully remind others to obey the 10 commandments.
Hardly any details about this pursuit and it seem the only person to mention a pursuit was a witness. It it their policy to conduct high speed pursuits over petty theft?
The cops need to really dial back these pursuits in a very big way. It totally endangers *everyone* on the road. How many innocents have been killed because the cops wanted to play cops and robbers, chasing petty criminals through public streets and neighborhoods. A whole lot of people! Tons of innocent people have been maimed and killed because someone stole a shirt or bag of Fritos. It’s bull shit and why these cities counties and states pay these huge settlements. Then the taxpayers have to pickup the bill.
Let’s just say I don’t share the expressions of regret in the article. Three less vermin stopped at the beginning of their career as public parasites
There is very little info about what happened in the reports I’ve read. I think it is safe to assume someone from Target phoned in the theft and things went downhill after that. Big box stores have cameras all over the place, including the parking lot. My guess is a Target employee gave the cops a license plate number of the thieve’s car. The cops hit the lights and sirens and the teens took off. Was there a high speed pursuit? I haven’t seen any info that there was.
If you steal, you deserve a punishment.
If you choose your own, and it is final, you have assured you won’t sin again.
Is that was the cops tell the innocents victim's families in court who died over some minor petty theft, all because the cops wanted to conduct high speed pursuits over a $30 petty theft?
Its sad, but teenagers do stupid things.. all of them. Fortunately for most the stupid things they do don’t wind up getting them killed... unfortunately for others, they do. Lord knows I did some stupid things, luckily none of them killed me, but there definitely were some things I did that could have.
Since graduation season is upon us, be ready for the sad reports of various teens dying in stupid ways. This time of year these stories tend to get more play because of the fact those killed are “about to graduate” or “had just graduated”.
Sadly though, these sorts of things happen all year round.
Singiyah and Nasir are Muslim names .
France and England are being overtaken by them and crime is through the roof.
Tell me, if some cop chasing a minor petty theft suspect broadsided your family vehicle, killing all of them, putting you in the hospital for 6 months, you'd be A-OK with that?
??
3 lives of crime cut short. I’m just glad no cops or innocents were hurt.
Put them in jail. Don’t kill them.
“They’re just good kids, they didn’t deserve this, they didn’t deserve this.” Did the store they stole from deserve that?
