Wednesday, June 4, was the 21st anniversary on the bulldozer attack in Granby. The attack was carried out by Marvin Heemeyer, a Granby business owner, in armored Komatsu D355A bulldozer.
Several buildings were damaged in the rampage, including the Sky-Hi News office, a bank, a hardware store, a concrete company, a utility service center, the town hall, the police department, and a former mayor’s home. He targeted those who he felt had dealt him an injustice, the crux of which was a zoning dispute.
The rampage lasted two hours and seven minutes, ending when the bulldozer got stuck attempting to go through the alleyway of Gambles Hardware Store.
Heemeyer then killed himself with a handgun. No other deaths occurred, but an estimated $7 million in damage was done.
Granby rebuilt itself even better after Marvin Heemeyer’s rampage, as the town of Granby came together to construct a new library, town hall and several other buildings. In the 21 years since the attack, the community has come a long way, but is still healing in many ways.

Oh, wow! Yes.
They should rename that town Bollard City.
My just says “now”
They changed zoning laws to build a cement factory next to his muffler shop, they cut his power, wouldn't allow sewer lines to his shop,
they legally keep hounding him to sell to the cement company, they even shut down the road to his shop .
The cement company was part of the town HOA. The town board screwed him over and kept screwing him over,
>>The narrative is that the killdozer guy was constantly crabbing off and the town’s people grew to hate him.
yeah, it’s so annoying when peasants keep petitioning their betters for redress of greivances. The peons should just accept when the angel politicians try to bankrupt them and steal their land.
Still here.
Got the t-shirt.
I was living in CO at the time and I only vaguely remember this.
I question the ‘anniversality’ of this event.
I couldn't find myself on the original thread. Could be because I was out in the middle of the Arabian Gulf on USS George Washington at the time (though I do recall occasionally logging on to FR from the ship's internet, --something I would never do today).
Oh! That was fun! It certainly brings back memories!
That must have been one of the 3 nights in the last 24 years I wasn’t on FR. I didn’t have any wiseacre comments

Some rampage. The perp inflicted a lot of property damage and then killed himself. I admire him in a way.
That’s the same day I signed up!
I’d been lurking since the late 90s.

“I’ve seen stories years afterwards and it looks like some of the places he destroyed were never rebuilt.”
One of the indicators of overwhelming public corruption is officials who do not allow their cities to build. They’d rather take the money for themselves in an endless bureaucratic maze of permitting, studies, impact statements and fees. The building never gets built and the politicians retire as multi-millionaires.
That’s why they corrupt the media first. So the people don’t know what’s happening.
I been here since Oct 13, 1998 under this handle
No, it's coming up to the 81st anniversary of the Theodore Sturgeon story's publication. Too bad the title got taken over by the Granby incident, because it was one of my favorite Sturgeon pieces. Now if you search "killdozer" all you see is stuff about that Colorado idiot.
I go to Granby every year and have somewhat of a feel for people who live in the area, I’m far from an expert.
What I learned is this guy moved there and was a real oddball.
He took offense to small things he perceived as slights.
I’m from a small town.
People know each other and trust each other.
Great for new people to move in, but trust is earned over time.
This guy didn’t get that
And to do what he did a person has to be incredible mentally unstable and evil.
