Wednesday, June 4, was the 21st anniversary on the bulldozer attack in Granby. The attack was carried out by Marvin Heemeyer, a Granby business owner, in armored Komatsu D355A bulldozer.
Several buildings were damaged in the rampage, including the Sky-Hi News office, a bank, a hardware store, a concrete company, a utility service center, the town hall, the police department, and a former mayor’s home. He targeted those who he felt had dealt him an injustice, the crux of which was a zoning dispute.
The rampage lasted two hours and seven minutes, ending when the bulldozer got stuck attempting to go through the alleyway of Gambles Hardware Store.
Heemeyer then killed himself with a handgun. No other deaths occurred, but an estimated $7 million in damage was done.
Granby rebuilt itself even better after Marvin Heemeyer’s rampage, as the town of Granby came together to construct a new library, town hall and several other buildings. In the 21 years since the attack, the community has come a long way, but is still healing in many ways.

I just umbrella’d it.
I figured. No critique.
I just used it as an excuse to expound about something I’ve never discussed.
I am still here. That was an epic thread. It was my first time “meeting” the iconic Fester Chugabrew. :-)
lolol. Still telling it straight, if you know me.
All of these stupid cowards who take hostages and end up dying for nothing and forgotten. This fellow is going to be remembered for a LONG time and if they kill him will become a martyr. He has apparently taken great strides to not kill anyone so far. Also, the folks on the zoning board will probably be much more careful in the future to have a really VALID reason for the decisions they make instead of petty politics. Just incredible.
Haven't changed my opinion in 21 years. Just letting you (and everyone else) know.
Also, one more thing. The government takes great pains locally to control news in order not to inflame the public and give them any ideas. However, the media has free reign to inflame the world against us. Watch how the media treats this entire event. Watch closely.
A LOT of people need to go to prison for treason (or worse).
:)
I remember it like it was yesterday. Or last week.
It’s been a while.
“Can’t we all get along” was violated.
On both sides.
The town peeps shoulda left him alone.
He’s been made into some anti government hero.
From the deeper reading I’ve done , he wasn’t .
Mentally unhinged because he felt slighted by long time residents .
The power brokers paint him that way to lessen the number of copycats.
Marvin Neemeyer stated, "Sometimes reasonable men must do unreasonable things."
Our Founding Fathers and Colonial volunteers sure agreed.
I grew up as an outsider in a small town. And while I don't agree with what Mr. Heemeyer did, I understand what drove him to it.
He should have just done what I did: leave.
The 30th anniversary of the San Diego tank rampage was last month. Two fellows who checked out big without killing anyone else.
I’m still here!
And not in Iraq anymore like I was when this story was posted. 😃
A true American Patriot.
Yeah, mine quit working when I turned 23. Too lazy to get batteries.
