Marvel fans are in uproar after the debut of a controversial new storyline that reimagines Black Panther's legacy—with a shocking twist: the latest heir appears to be white.
The premiere issue of Marvel Knights: The World To Come dropped Wednesday and introduced a new character named Ketema, whom T’Challa, prince of the fictional African kingdom of Wakanda and the original Black Panther, refers to as his son, according to BleedingCool.com.
The comic reveals that T’Challa fathered Ketema with his early love interest Monica Lynne, a character pulled from earlier comic arcs.
But in a major shakeup, Ketema grows to resent his father and ultimately challenges him for the throne.
After defeating T’Challa in battle, Ketema removes his mask—only to reveal blond hair, blue eyes, and distinctly Caucasian features.
The reveal sent social media into meltdown.
'They looked at this and thought it was a good idea?' one user fumed.
Another quipped, 'Life is a horror movie in 2025.'
The character of T’Challa was famously portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman in Marvel’s Black Panther films, celebrated for honoring African culture and representation.
Now, fans are questioning whether the latest storyline undermines that legacy.
'Black Panther having a white son would be ridiculous,' one person posted, while another raged, 'Black Panther is WHITE! Marvel actually did the unthinkable and it's INSANE!'...
'Lol stop letting these non-Black people touch Black Panther. They do silly stuff like this,”' one critic commented—prompting another to respond: 'The writer is Black.'
Indeed, Christopher Priest—who co-created Marvel Knights: The World To Come alongside Joe Quesada, Richard Isanove, and Richard Starkings—is widely recognized as the first Black writer-editor in mainstream comics.

Starting with Christian Bale as Barack Obama and Leonardo DiCaprio as Shaka Zulu.
I always liked the “Men In Black” movies. Those were all pretty fun.
Why are they upset? Media has been replacing white characters with black ones for quite some time, now. Apparently, that door, like so many others, only swings one way.
I’m interested in what is going to happen to the demand for “actors” when Google Veo AI takes over the industry, and they can have Abe Lincoln playing Hannibal Lector. A key stroke, and Henry the VIII looks like a female Indonesian Hobbit.
No, no, no, no.
The next Black Panther needs to be Asian. And female.
Get with the program.
Wakanda will have in it the actors who played Gollum and Bilbo in Lord of the Rings. They are Tolkien white guys.
“Iron Man 3” was spotty but excelled by demonstrating how the armor didn’t define the man, it was the man underneath who was the hero when that armor was denied him.
Yes; comic, television and movie characters have been manipulated whichever way the winds of political correctness and perceived popularity blew. A black Little Mermaid. A Hispanic Spider-Man. A James Bond with a sensitive side. It will continue but the survival of these fictional creations depends on the power of we consumers.
Disney’s learning it the hard way. DC now knows you don’t chase Marvel’s formula, pull on Superman’s cape or make him gay (they actually did that in the comics). Marvel’s finding out you can’t put half-assed product out after crafting a massive multi-movie story together in a way never attempted before - and doing that right.
They’ll either learn from their mistakes or die on the hill of mediocrity. It’s OUR choice to buy or ignore, not the producers’ call to dictate to us.
chris hemsworth for shaft
sydney sweeney for foxy brown
“Seems like this sort of casting happens all the time ... sort of.”
Like a black woman as 007.
There's a funny 2000 comedy about an insane white man who thinks he's Shaft, called Shafted.
I actually proposed this idea years ago, along with a white Shaft. They think its OK to make white characters black, but the other way around is racist.
"The Hebrew Hammer walks into a Nazi bar..."
(profanity warning: one 'mofo' dropped)
He said that when he was growing up, he really hated seeing so many Christmas decorations every winter, compared to the few Hannukah decorations he saw.
The Hebrew Hammer was motivated by his strong sense of Jewish identity and feeling of alienation at being a minority.
