It was a little package of small onion bulbs, bought at Lowe’s, but all red, not mixed. I don’t remember if there was a variety name listed, could be a different variety from what we’ve tried in the past. Those ones usually ended up with lots of red color, but they never really formed decent bulbs no matter how long we left them in the dirt.
We live in southern Arizona, west of Tucson, Zone 9, I think. We planted these onions around mid-March, and the weather hasn’t been all that hot yet except for a couple of days around 105.
Down south you could well get by planting onion seeds in October. They handle cold just fine and burst into growth in early spring - though sometimes they’ll think they are two years old and send up flowers.
Oh, and make very sure you have short day onions that far south, or they will just sit waiting for long northern days before fully bulbing.
Bump for morning. I know the bulbs you bought, but will look up info on the variety in the AM.
BUT - I still stand on my knowledge that the COLOR of the onion is based upon the the VARIETY of the onion; not how they’re grown.
