When ‘non-dogmatic’ information becomes FREE & TRANSPARENT it becomes a threat to those who attempt to control the narrative and/or the stable.

"Free thought" is a philosophical viewpoint which holds that positions regarding truth should be formed on the basis of logic, reason, and empiricism, rather than authority, tradition, revelation, or dogma.

There has been much speculation on the “10 days of darkness” as it has come to be known. One theory is that it will be an Internet outage.
Having observed much Internet instability over the past month I decided to write up directions in the event of one type of Internet outage caused by [them] occurs.
DNS - Domain Name System
DNS is used by nearly everything on the Internet. It is how your device (computer, mobile etc.) resolves the human friendly name to an address devices understand.
It has been a theory of mine for quite some time that if they take out the Internet, one of the easiest ways will be by killing the DNS system. People like Brian Krebs and others have complained for YEARS how insecure DNS is, thus why I suspect this is a big target.
Additionally, having observed the big Google outage in late November 2020, I noticed something while people were mentioning they couldn’t access gmail. I did not see a single issue with YouTube or gmail or any other google service during this platform-wide outage.
Once I determined my setup had no issues I theorized it is because I run my own private DNS setup. My DNS setup saves (known as caching) DNS names so it does not need to look them up again for a period of time. This being the case, I saw no outage, therefore it is very possible that Google’s DNS (or Internet DNS in general) might have been a big cause.
Therefore, what I have listed below is a possible workaround (works on computers only, not mobile devices). If you know how to set up your own caching DNS server in your own home (MacOS and Linux can use dnsmasq), I would recommend doing so now.
What to do
First, download this file: hosts
Next, follow the directions at this site to learn how to edit your own computer’s hosts file: Edit Hosts File
Once you have learned HOW to edit your own hosts file, use the downloaded file from this site to cut and paste into your hosts file ONLY IF THE INTERNET APPEARS TO GO DARK.
Do not edit your hosts file unless there is a massive Internet outage that appears to be in the US or worldwide.
This in theory would provide limited access to some sites should the Internet go down. If you know how to use a command line, you can add your own entries to the provided list.

Hackers can disrupt the Internet without attacking networks or individual websites (e.g., FreeRepublic.com). Learning about IP Addresses may sometimes help you reach FR or other key websites (Banking, Medical, White House etc.) during a DNS cyber attack.
A few painless words about IP Addresses (Techies will correct me if I am wrong here) may help a people find Free Republic if the Internet is otherwise disrupted by DNS attack(s).
Does anyone remember the old Mayberry RFD television show? I recall that the townspeople (includes Andy Griffith and Aunt Bea) had to call telephone operators and give the name of the person they were calling. The operator would manually connect them to the intended recipient.Domain Name Servers (DNS) are kind of like those telephone operators (*pausing to listen for Techie thunder*).
To log in to FR you'd ordinarily have to know FR's IP address and type it into your browser. The actual IP address of Free Republic is 45.79.56.181 (it's a good idea to save that address).
All of the websites on the Internet have their own numeric IP address(es). Other than the math-happy among us (*looks around for goldbux*) most of us don't remember number sequences as well as we can recall words or acronyms. So the Domain Name Server(s) store all the ugly IP addresses (lookin' at you, 45.79.56.181) in a directory and pairs each with their own friendly, lovable names of websites (lookin' at you, Free Republic). So we 'get' to type friendly names which the DNS server converts into the ugly IP address for us and, like the telephone operator, helps connect us to the websites we seek.
We don't have to see the ugliness as long as the DNS are working. Cyber attack(s) on DNS could keep us from using the Internet UNLESS we know the numeric codes for our favorite websites. :)
There are many kinds of attacks and if you couldn't reach FR and or other websites (doesn't have to be all or nothing) it may be for other types of attacks or combinations of DNS and other attacks. There are so many IP addresses on the web that there are many DNS servers and perhaps only one or some of them might fall under attack at any given moment.
In the event of an outtage, you may want to try typing 45.79.56.181 into your browser's address bar instead of https://freerepublic.com to see if you can reach the forum page. If you do reach the forum page, then you know you side-stepped a DNS attack and that other websites may or may not have connectivity problems.
Since I'm collecting a few IP addresses to print and save, I'll put some below. I'll use more retrieved archival info from Musicnart to locate the IP addresses of some websites:

While I did receive the WH ip address (use the first one labeled IPv4) I failed to connect because of security blocks. I tried a smattering of websites and some work while others won't connect because of security concerns (e.g., Cloudflare) or my own computer's combat stance.
When I tried Amazon's ip address, I received warnings from my browser that my password/credit card information would not be secure. I clicked to accept the risk as I was not actually going to log on or shop, and the browser continued to a blank page? *sigh* When I tried this at the library years ago I somehow 'made it' to sites alright.
Techies can jump in and advise if there are workarounds. I believe some of the problems I had occurred because the IP address are pair with an HTTP (unsecured) address as opposed to an HTTPS (secured) ip address like that owned by Free Republic:

Look, I'm seeing this from the inside, and am admittedly biased towards our president (and my friend), but there's a lot of crazy stuff on social media, so I wanted to address some things directly on the Iran issue:
First, POTUS has been amazingly consistent, over 10 years, that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. Over the last few months, he encouraged his foreign policy team to reach a deal with the Iranians to accomplish this goal. The president has made clear that Iran cannot have uranium enrichment. And he said repeatedly that this would happen one of two ways--the easy way or the "other" way.
Second, I've seen a lot of confusion over the issue of "civilian nuclear power" and "uranium enrichment." These are distinct issues. Iran could have civilian nuclear power without enrichment, but Iran rejected that. Meanwhile, they've enriched uranium far above the level necessary for any civilian purpose. They've been found in violation of their non-proliferation obligations by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is hardly a rightwing organization.
It's one thing to want civilian nuclear energy. It's another thing to demand sophisticated enrichment capacity. And it's still another to cling to enrichment while simultaneously violating basic non-proliferation obligations and enriching right to the point of weapons-grade uranium.
I have yet to see a single good argument for why Iran needed to enrich uranium well above the threshold for civilian use. I've yet to see a single good argument for why Iran was justified in violating its non-proliferation obligations. I've yet to see a single good pushback against the IAEA's findings.
Meanwhile, the president has shown remarkable restraint in keeping our military's focus on protecting our troops and protecting our citizens.
He may decide he needs to take further action to end Iranian enrichment. That decision ultimately belongs to the president. And of course, people are right to be worried about foreign entanglement after the last 25 years of idiotic foreign policy.
But I believe the president has earned some trust on this issue. And having seen this up close and personal, I can assure you that he is only interested in using the American military to accomplish the American people's goals. Whatever he does, that is his focus.
