Legendary M*A*S*H star Loretta Swit has died at the age of 87.

Swit was known for playing the iconic character Major Margaret 'Hot Lips' Houlihan on the hit series.

The actress died Friday at her home in New York City, her publicist Harlan Boll confirmed.

A police report states that Swit passed of suspected natural causes soon after midnight on Friday, her publicist shared with The Hollywood Reporter.

The actress received acclaim for her role on the series, and received two Emmys for her portrayal.

In total, she earned 10 Emmy nominations for M*A*S*H and appeared in the majority of the show's 11 seasons, gracing screens for 240 of the program's 251 episodes.

M*A*S*H was an adaptation of the Robert Altman's 1970 film and was set during the Korean war. It followed a team of US doctors and nurses at a fictional army hospital.

It's series finale - of which Swit appeared in - was watched by 105 million viewers, making it one of the most-watched narrative TV episodes of all time.

The first few seasons were great. Didn’t care for how her character “glammed-up” as time went on.

Same. Never knew she was 30 years older.

I also liked watching her on Password Plus and $25000 Pyramid as she was one of the better celebrity players on shows like that.

Exactly. It got off to a great start until all tough soldiers were getting humiliated.

“Once the show became politically correct, and no longer funny, I stopped watching. Everything is like that now, only worse.”

I’m sure the downturn was all Alan Alda’s doing

It was at the moment that the show became politically correct that it seemed like the actors were just standing around reading their lines from the script. Like they were bored with the show.

Could be. Too many leftist libs spoil the… well pretty much anything. It seemed like the writers couldn’t decide whether to keep it as a comedy, or change it into a serious drama about the tragedies of war and the importance of treating everyone with respect (except the war mongers). Some shows just run too long, beyond their usefulness, while others get the axe too soon and no one knows why.

I was just thinking about “that long ago” I was in college and we watched MASH reruns before the chow hall opened for dinner. Now I am retired. That is a long time.
