I just saw the greatest performance of our National Anthem ever. Incredible emotional. Race about to begin
that was NASCAR- they go about 60MPH slower than Indy car
😆
It truly is the greatest sporting event in the world.
Oops! Sorry, I thought this was NASCAR, too. Apologies.
How amazingly cool was that pace lap?? OMG!!!
I’ve never seen anything like this. Wow!
Crash on the pace lap.
Roberto Guerrero, 1992, part 2....
We lived in Indianapolis back in the ‘60s.
Went to the ‘66 and ‘67 Indy 500s.
In ‘66 we sat close to the first turn and on the first lap there was a pile-up that took out one third of the cars.
There was only one injury and that was AJ Foyt climbed a huge fence to escape the wreckage and cut his hand.
As I remember the ‘67 was rained out and we went back the next day.
1966 was one of the first races broadcast by ABC, albeit a week later. Chris Schenkel did the race. You can find the broadcast, crash included, on Youtube- it is really cool
Marco Andretti out. The track is very slick.
with the weather and track so cool there’s going to be a lot of spins and yellow flags- like 1992
It’s a sickening feeling when you lose traction on cold tires.
Raining again.
Sprinkles but it doesn’t look like its the entire track...often times it will rain in turn 3 & 4 yet 1 &2 will be fine
Myself, I'm looking forward to the Super Shuffle Board Bowl.
Most boring race in the world.
Blame God- He’s in charge of the weather
Yes, everyone was standing up and cheering the first lap when we could see the disaster happening.
I felt sick and had to sit down because I was sure that many drivers were casualties.
Just two years prior when we lived near the speedway we could hear the race and there was a horrendous fiery crash that killed Eddie Sachs and Dave McDonald.
AirEvac helicopters flew over our house taking the injured to the hospital.
My parents were with us in ‘67 and my Mom and I thought we had seen a near miracle when there were no injuries.
‘64 was horrendous as was ‘73- when i watched the race as a 9YO and said, “OMG!!!”
