I was borderline diabetic

Started to have excema and psorisis. Body wide

Saw a functional medicine person

No dairy

No wheat

Meat based diet

nuts

coffee no cream

Bowl of berries a couple of times a week. I nuke them for one minute and eat them like ice cream.

Rashes all gone

dropped and entire point on A!C and blood sugar is 90

Also exercise for an hour 3 to 4 times a week at the gym including teeny weights.

I don’t follow a keto diet, but I have. It really works. I’m rather proud that I turned my doctor on to it.

“Time to see an endocrinologist and stop relying in internet advice. Each of us diabetics is different and relying on metformin is a possible start but even that well touted drug has drawbacks after long use.”

Ditto all that. This is a job for a specialist — a good doctor will also study your blood tests and make sure you don’t have other issues etc.

Prediabetes is a wake up call for many of us. You sound like you have a great attitude and should be in good shape. Good luck!

My story with blood sugar.

I have a life history of weight control challenges.

I was prediabetic before Doctors called it that and made a big issue out of my obvious problems.

I looked in the mirror. I told myself that I had been lying to myself all my life. Sugar is bad for me and always was.

I quit sugar- wemt to KETO-light before it was called KETO.

My blood sugar quit being an issue and my weight became manageable. That was 20 years ago.

There you go. Do what you think is right. I wouldn’t take medication in an effort to hang on to sweets in my diet that were harming my health.

Check out Metformin and cancer. There are a bunch of studies showing people taking Metformin reduce their chances of cancer by up to 50%.

Same with my husband except it was 6-7 years ago.

His doc tests his blood every 6 months and everything still looks great. Even his cholesterol came down, which before he hadn’t been able to do even with meds.

His doc was adamant against keto at the time. After about 2 years of checkups and bloodwork, now supports his choice. Except for the Covid vax which caused us to ultimately leave that GP. New doc is a proponent of keto

Best thing I can recommend is to start wearing a glucose monitor like Libre 3 or Dexcom. This will help you fix your diet, particularly what to eat and when. With this continous monitor, you will see what foods you are eating that spike your glucose and then you can begin fixing your diet by avoiding or at least limiting those foods.

The glucose monitor will also help your doctor to prescribe the correct medication, because he will be able to see what your body does while you sleep when you normally cannot manually check glucose levels.

The first thing to do is clean the so called crap from your diet. Do a ketogenic diet and take berberine. It supposedly works as well as metformin, but few side effects.

Emphasis on Ceylon cinnamon vs. Cassia (the common stuff). Both contain coumarin which is bad for the liver in large quantities, but the Ceylon variety contains only trace amounts. It is harder to find, however.

As. Type II myself, many times it’s either the liver or pancreas and sugar production. Type II is more prevelant as you get older. The only thing I can suggest is cut the carbs.

No bread, crackers, milk, ice cream, alcohol of any kind, soups, gravy’s, sauces, or processed food of any kind. Stick to vegetables, water, or keto based products. Find a dietician and get on a Facebook group.

The problem with fasting is your body doesn’t regulate blood surgars correctly.

Excess iron causes diabetes. If people have more iron than they need, removing it makes it easier to process sugar.

Blood letting in high-ferritin type 2 diabetes
https://diabetesjournals.org/diabetes/article/51/4/1000/34602/Blood-Letting-in-High-Ferritin-Type-2-Diabetes

If you consume meat and have more iron than you need, bloodletting reduces iron and it’s beneficial. You can use blood ferritin to estimate how much stored iron you have. If blood ferritin is more than 100 ng/ml, the person usually has more iron than they need and would benefit from donating blood or bloodletting.

If a person’s blood ferritin is less than 70 ng/ml, the person has an iron deficiency.

I take Metformin, avoid carbs—especially high fructose corn syrup—and do a fast walk either outdoors or on the treadmill so that my body switches to fat-burning mode (at least 20-25 min). It stays in fat-burning mode for a good while after that.

Taking multivitamins can cause excess retinol.

Atkins is good plus start drinking canary seed milk twice per day. It will drop your Blood sugar count significantly in a couple of months and it helps with weight loss. Many people have cured themselves from type 11 diabetes by drinking it.

Mr. GG2 has high blood pressure and spills high on his blood sugar. He dropped about 20 pts off his blood sugar in 90 days. You can order the powder online and you just mix it with water and drink it at meal time. It has a mild grass like flavor. I like it. Its a big thing in South America.

Don’t take those drugs if your just borderline.

I’ve done all the low carb diets and they all work at keeping my A1C levels in the non diabetic range while also losing weight.

I do recommend using a CGM (continous glucose monitor) for one or two months. They really help with behavior modification by bringing the receipts on what really spikes your blood when you eat off plan.

I mostly eat keto and do both intermittent and extended fasting for weight loss and other health effects.
