It also depends greatly upon where you reside.
My residency in Florida.
My previous residency was Iowa.
Florida, with No-Fault and crazy (and uninsured illegals) rates are huge compared to what I paid (and what family members still living in Iowa pay)
That said, my annual car tag renewal in Florida is less that $50. In Iowa they have personal property tax on vehicles that is collected with your tag renewal. That is around $400 per year on any car less than 5 years old.
I have a 2010 Escape. Only have liability. No accidents or tickets. Drive about 5 k a year. Progressive. 135/month. Would be cheaper but I live in Myrtle Beach. Where a wreck happens every second. 😎
it also depends on where you live.
Myrtle beach is over run with 80 y.o.s that are a menace on the road.
Never ever seen so many people who will slam on their brakes to let someone out of a dollar general, or stop in the r8ght hand lane to get over the the left hand lane.
DONT MOVE TO MYRTLE BEACH UNLESS YOU PLAN ON DRIVING LIKE EVERY OTHER DRIVER IS DEAF DUMB AND BLIND OR THINK THEY ARE DALE EARHARDT.
“Solution? Pay cash for a used beater and drive it til the wheels fall off.”
But that enacts the Repair Costs Through the Roof.
I drive beaters but unfortunately I’m not able to repair them all the time due to injuries from being rear-ended last year.
Then the healthcare racket after a car accident is disgusting. Triple billing and costly, worthless treatments. The outcome is to soak up all the money from the settlement and still leave a person injured.
I wish they could re-write auto insurance for the driver rather than the vehicle. I have a boat, two motorcycles, two trucks, and two cars... If I try to insure them all that the same time, with a clean driving record, it exceeds what I’m paying on my mortgage...
I ensure liability only since I always buy used cars less than $10,000.
I confirmed that Florida does have option to self-insure Liability auto insurance, by posting proof of assets > $40,000. I plan to do that before my next 6 month renewal comes due, and then drop State Farm insurance.
I really appreciate your help.
I hate State Farm. They screwed me over good after my house fire. I’ll talk $hit about them till I die...
This is what I have tried to tell people for years. Staying with the same company costs you more. If you shop around, you can find better deals.
You used to be rewarded, now they take you for granted...
In CaCaLAnd the increase is always the doing of the govm’t. I have no problem sharing cost. What I have a problem with is the gov’mt telling companies that they MUST offer policies (which I subsidize) to everyone — even those with crappy records or live in horrific neighborhoods. Even illegals.
Damn, I though what State Farm did to me was bad...
Two of the worst. 😉
If you are a vet, USAA.
If not, Travelers.
Both of them will pay promptly and with minimum hassle.
I have heard of a couple others that are good but I have personal experience with both of those and they behaved exactly as you would expect a decent company would.
The more an insurance company advertises, the less they seem to actually do. Personal opinion, YMMV.
We’re long time GEICO customers. We currently live in Metro Atlanta so the premiums are high but I got a quote for when we move to our rural property and the premiums drop like a rock.
Last month a large tree from next door fell on our roof at 7:15 AM. I sat up screaming. 😆. Anyway, were insured by Travelers through GEICO and our adjustor was out at 9:00 AM the next morning and a preliminary check was sent to us that week.
The tree people were out to our house by 10:00 AM cutting the Tree off with a crane and Mr.GG2 then tarped it. Its been about 5 weeks because we had to have a few structural engineer inspections. But now the contractor is putting us on the schedule and yesterday a final check was mailed. I have to give Travelers credit. They aren’t the cheapest but they are pretty responsive.
Had the same thing happen after 35 years and no claims. This was after the Antifa riots in a city 17 miles away. Left them.
He was looking for a bribe, apparently.
If you own a house or have sizable assets, I would get stop loss liability coverage in case you hit a Dr in a Lamborghini.
I found out in my state Florida, I can post a bond confirming $40k assets and then I can drop auto liability insurance. I will get it done before next premium payment due in November.
I am tired of betting on insurance and never winning. I dropped home insurance 3 years ago and enjoying more cruises with money saved.
Good to know. I’m in a deep blue state, but it’s worth looking into.
