“Banned?” Don’t I wish. I heard that song so often that my poor sixth-grade brain tried to escape thru my ears.
Worst song ever. And one of the most overplayed.
I have heard about that song, and for that same reason, I’ve never had any interest in actually hearing the song.
I’m fine never knowing.
I am a little surprised that a group with no hits could have afforded to hire Rupert Holmes as a songwriter.
I recall him being very popular with the few songs he wrote.

I knew about this song from way back — in my grade school days, I was an avid fan of Dr. Demento. He played this a few times on his show.

My brother had the 45. I was never good at deciphering rock lyrics. I rediscovered Timothy years later. Great tune. I love the way the bouncy arrangement disguises the dark content.
