Def Leppard is much farther down the list.

In no order; Queen, Pink Floyd, The Kinks, Cream, The Yardbirds, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, The Police, Motorhead, and Deep Purple would be ahead of them.

OMG! How could I not mention Dire Straits? I’ve seen them many times, one of my favorites. Mark Knopfler has a very distinct sound, and his vocals and lyrics are very cool. Great backup band, I was communicating for a while with Guy Fletcher, multi-musician and all around nice guy. Elo were another great one, Van Morrison, Ten Years After, so many. Some awesome bands here also, late 60’s & 70’s. Then came disco crap and rap crap.

Didn’t Ginger Baker play drums for them for a while? I vaguely remember something like that.

Are you thinking of Lemmy?

Post-Syd and pre-DSOTM was a more interesting era than given credit for. The final Syd Vyd for Jugband Blues is just haunting. Some self-indulgent wankery to be sure, but some shimmering heights too: I reference Gilmour's solo on this low-rent live of Let The Be More Light. You could probably get the Floyd boys to play your daughter's sweet 16 for a few quid in that era. Man.

I don’t believe the Beatles had that much impact. We had some very good and much more talented bands then the Beatles. Allman Brothers, Hendrix, Joplin, Johnny & Edgar Winter, Dylan. I don’t think any of them were inspired by the Beatles. Same with a lot of the British Bands. Don’t get me wrong, I like a lot of the Beatle’s stuff, but I just don’t think they were great rock musicians, more pop than anything. Imho.

You interview the guys from all those bands, and I would guess most of them would say that seeing the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show is what inspired them to get into music.

They can’t even beat out the likes of Cyndi Lauper or some obscure rapper to get in the RRHOF. But yes, I would prefer them over the first five. Throw in The Cure, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, and so forth.

Rock n roll was dying a slow death when the Beatles showed up. Every band since 1964 was influenced, directly or indirectly, by the Beatles.

R and R was just getting started. The late 50s and early 60s was still syrupy pop.

Only a handful of bands (Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, Elvis). But yes, the Beatles started a trend with the British invasion.

He did indeed. ‘79 ‘80 and then (according to Ginger himself) “the world’s best drummer was sacked by the world’s worst bass player “
