With Microsoft ending support for Windows 10 in October 2025, millions of Windows 10 users will be left behind by the company. Upgrades to Windows 11 may be out of the question, due to stricter system requirements. While these can be bypassed, many Windows 10 users may lack the expertise to do so.
This leaves Microsoft's recommendation to buy a new Windows 11 PC or subscribe to one year of extended security updates as the only options that Microsoft highlights in its recommendations.
There are at least two additional options available to users, but Microsoft makes no mention of them. The first is to subscribe to 0Patch, which costs $30 per year as well, like ESU, but guarantees updates until at least 2030. The second is to migrate to Linux.
Migrating to Linux is a daunting task. It is another operating system, which means it needs to be installed and configured, and files need to be moved over. Also, while many programs are available for Windows and Linux, there are notable exceptions.
End of 10
End of 10 tries to help Windows 10 users move over to Linux. It has KDE backing, at least when it comes to hosting, which gives it credibility.
The project team highlights five reasons for switching to Linux:
It is cheaper - Linux is free to install and use. It is ad-free and not spying no users. Good for the planet to keep using older PCs instead of purchasing new ones. Communities around the world support Linux and may help new users. Users are in control.
While those are reassuring, the project's main goal is to bring Windows 10 users who want to switch to Linux but need help doing so together with Linux communities.

Sorry about that Bob. I noticed that after I posted this. It was there and they pulled the article. The site is owned by softonic. The company working with Open AI and MS on the Stargate project. Apparently they didn’t like that article pushing Linux...
I still use WIN10. I cannot get these updates installed. I have tried YouTube and other means and no luck.

That’s because Edge is just Google Chrome with a new paint job and the serial numbers filed off.

Thanks to ShadowAce for the ping!
I still have a W7 Dell laptop.
Mostly to play Battlefield 1942 and W7 chess.
It’s on a docking station with a pair of 34” curved monitors.
That’s kind of how it is with me.
I bought a Mac for Final Cut and photo editing. The Mac is usually doing something along those lines when it’s running which is constantly.
The Mac simply runs and runs.
I have some Linux distros on virtual box on the W11 laptop, another W11 that almost never gets used, and Mint on a hand-me down laptop that I use some.
I still miss DOS
“... until they come out with a Windows 12.”
You do realize that if there is a WinDoze 12 it will be even more restrictive and intrusive than W11 is now. The M$ business plan is to eventually get all users into full annual subscription mode. One can easily project a future where your computer related subscription fees for all your systems may exceed your car payment.

Thanks for the info. I installed WINE and it didn’t work. I will look into your suggestion. It sounds like it is what I am looking for.
The advanced modes for MRI software run only from a CD. I think it has to do with licensing. In Windows, I get around that buy having the hospital create a disk with the specific dates I want to analyze.
Try Audacity. It might have the features you are looking for.

I was forced to upgrade to Win11, but I use mods like Simple Classic Theme to maintain a Win7/WinXP interface.
DirectX
Direct3d
Is there a way around that stuff?
Good question....How long will it take to get an answer, I wonder?
“”I still miss DOS””
That’s a joke, right?
