Many Americans are choosing to opt out of REAL ID’s, long DMV waits - and instead do this (passport)

WASHINGTON – As many Americans across the nation are rushing to obtain their REAL ID license, some are choosing to opt out by either using their valid passport as their preferred form of ID for travel or waiting until their current driver’s license expires and then renewing it.

The REAL ID requirement takes effect on May 7, when Americans must have a new form of identification in order to fly domestically.

The costs of obtaining the identification vary from state to state. Costs also vary according to whether travelers are obtaining a first-time REAL ID or looking to renew their existing license.

Other forms of identification that will be accepted in lieu of a REAL ID include a valid U.S. passport or passport card, DHS trusted traveler cards such as Global Entry, Department of Defense IDs, permanent resident cards, and border crossing cards.

With the deadline looming, Fox News Digital spoke this week with travelers and asked those who do not have or do not plan to get a REAL ID any time soon why they made that decision.

At the Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Washington, D.C., Lisa from Oregon said that it was a “financial decision” at this time.

Lisa (no last name shared) said she had not yet gotten a REAL ID to date “because it was an extra cost, and I knew that I would rather put that money toward the passport.”

She said that at a later date, she may decide to get a REAL ID.

“When I’m traveling later, I’ll have to bring my passport, and I may not want to do that for stateside travel,” she said.

This is a state issue. My state doesn’t reqire a marriage certificate to get real ID if the SS card is in the married name.

Starting to wonder if this is malicious compliance issue.

The state of Virginia...they tend to be very literal in their interpretations of Federal requirements and everything has to tie together end to end government to person to name change proof...no Church certificates allowed!

Same issue. Couldn’t find the dang SS Card anywhere. Looked at the actual requirements in my state and was allowed to bring a couple official documents (e.g. W-2) that had the number on it.

Got all that and other documents put together, waited long time at DMV, finally got called back. Opened up my folder with all the docs and the young Indian woman brushed it off saying she didn’t need to see any of it. Was renewing my license at same time, maybe that’s why.

I think you are correct. My state doesn't mention marriage certificates as being a required document. In a state that does, the requirement is moot if you have a passport.

“””The REAL ID Act was passed in 2005.

I’ve had mine for at least 9 years. I have little sympathy for complaints about standing in line. Oh, my state didn’t have it, you say? Guess what. It was the blue states that dragged their feet on REAL ID and voter ID. What does that tell you?

And if you’re worried about the government collecting your information….hint….they already have it. This is not some new fangled boogie man that the deep state dreamed up. It’s actually a cure for what ails us.”””

You are correct. I got a REAL ID Drivers License in Florida about 10 years ago and it was no big deal.

I have noticed as have you that the news regarding REAL ID whiners are in BLUE STATES. Those BLUE STATES intentionally delayed implementing REAL ID.

And for those who complain about REAL ID fail to realize the Local, State, and Federal Governments already have tons of information about people residing in the USA.

What a joke. Biden flew hundreds of thousands of illegals all over the U.S. and even by government standards, they were considered, “undocumented.”

No lawmaker in The Stupid Party will bother to mention this.

(My wife and I got our Real ID drivers licenses years ago.)

I live in a blue state and have had a RealID DL for over six years. If you look at a map, all states have been issuing RealIds since around 2020. Some of the US territories didn’t get on the bandwagon until the last couple of years..

And if you’re worried about the government collecting your information….hint….they already have it.

"Real ID" is from a korporation, not the government. Take a look at the rights you gave away when you "voluntarily" signed up for it.

The Supreme Court made the case for authorities searching cell phone information without a warrant because "you voluntarily signed up for the cell phone service".

Real ID is the very definition of Fascism where the government colludes with korporations to violate your rights instead of doing it directly.

Give it time. You'll discover how Real ID sells your data to Google, Communist China, and a whole slew of globalist korporations.

The "elite", flying on chartered jets, don't need Real ID, just like they didn't have to show proof of taking the COVID-1984 Jim Jones Jab when flying into countries around the world.

The warning has been out for years. We made appointments at the DMV, were there about 30 minutes and walked out with the card. Less hassle than getting a passport(which we already have anyway) and no where near the hassle of carrying a passport around. Not sure about the rules regarding other banks but ours will require a REAL ID after 7 May. It’s for your own protection when you travel. It will invalidate a lot of fake drivers license over the next few years. Eventually only REAL ID cards will be available. Without the logo the cards will be obvious fakes.

When I went to get “Real ID”, they challenged me because my passport and birth certificate had “Robert” but my utility bill had “Bob”. After a loud argument, a supervisor came over and told Miss “I follow the rules” to “Just issue the damn ID!”

If I had to do it all over, I’d just keep my non-Real DL and use my passport.

They import tens of millions of criminals so they can treat regular Americans as suspects.

We are all under surveillance.
