WASHINGTON – As many Americans across the nation are rushing to obtain their REAL ID license, some are choosing to opt out by either using their valid passport as their preferred form of ID for travel or waiting until their current driver’s license expires and then renewing it.
The REAL ID requirement takes effect on May 7, when Americans must have a new form of identification in order to fly domestically.
The costs of obtaining the identification vary from state to state. Costs also vary according to whether travelers are obtaining a first-time REAL ID or looking to renew their existing license.
Other forms of identification that will be accepted in lieu of a REAL ID include a valid U.S. passport or passport card, DHS trusted traveler cards such as Global Entry, Department of Defense IDs, permanent resident cards, and border crossing cards.
With the deadline looming, Fox News Digital spoke this week with travelers and asked those who do not have or do not plan to get a REAL ID any time soon why they made that decision.
At the Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Washington, D.C., Lisa from Oregon said that it was a “financial decision” at this time.
Lisa (no last name shared) said she had not yet gotten a REAL ID to date “because it was an extra cost, and I knew that I would rather put that money toward the passport.”
She said that at a later date, she may decide to get a REAL ID.
“When I’m traveling later, I’ll have to bring my passport, and I may not want to do that for stateside travel,” she said.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Are men required to provide a valid , original marriage license?
My question does not reflect the issue of name change but the fact they married someone to cause the name change
I always use the passport.
Real ID is what you get when your government wants to punish its citizens because it has a retarded immigration policy.
My confirmation name is on all my documents, except my birth certificate. They won’t give me a RealID.
Religious discrimination.
Border crossing cards? No doubt with joe bidens picture.
Also good in many places to vote no doubt while us who were actually born here of parents who worked and built this country have to jump hoops to still be a citizen.
This is disgusting, democrats opened the doors to the wrong kind of persons getting into our country now the fix is accommodation for most of them and punishment for the ones paying for it?
If this turns out to be a method of keeping track of “citizens”, everyone will eventually be required to have a Real ID.
The TSA turned out to be the camel’s nose.
I have no idea where my SS card is.
Never once needed the actual card in 50 years.
Except for this now.
In NH, when we renewed our licences, we got the real ID renewed by mail, since we had it already.
But when we moved here, we made an appt at the DMV, got there and it was empty and we were in and out in no time, and that was for getting a new NH licens from just having moved in state.
And the people were nice.

/\ This. Plus all the groin gropers at airports: we got mass surveillance of Americans, police state treatment at airports and an enforced national id card all because bipartisan elites absolutely refuse to get control of immigration.
Sis waited 5 hours to just register our uncles old truck in Lancaster CA Friday.
Sent me a pic of an old guy in a kilt and full bagpipe regalia waiting his turn
Indiana offered Real ID starting in 2010. I’ve had mine for 2 DL renewels. 7 years now.
BC, SS card, and a utility bill is all I needed
That;s how the democrats always work.
Reward the criminal, lazy, entitled, arrogant, drugged out deadbeats and punish the hardworking, tax paying law-abiding citizens.
And the idiots wonder why they're losing support.
When I retired and moved and got a new driver’s license it came with the real id stamp. I’m not seeing the issue.
I had to take my BC to a SS office to get a new one
Been 40+ years since I’ve seen it
I have carried mt Passport since 1975.... SIMPLE!
I didn’t find real id to be that onerous. What is onerous is the facial recognition taking place in the TSA line to board a flight nowadays.
And steal elections anytime and anywhere they can.
It isn’t always feasible but a good rule of thumb: don’t look for anything from the government if you have to pay with your dignity or your privacy. They’ve already taken enough of both.
Pretty soon they’ll be barcoding us. If we tolerate it. If we surrender to it.
Passport cards work to for most situations.
But for flying out of country, yeah, a passport is necessary.
