"if sacrificing all of humanity were the only way, and a reliable way, to get … god-like things out there — superintelligences who still care about each other, who are still aware of the world and having fun — I would ultimately make that trade-off."

This is the vision of many of our billionaire oligarch elite.

Musk: "The percentage of intelligence that is biological grows smaller with each passing month. Eventually, the percent of intelligence that is biological will be less than 1%. I just don’t want AI that is brittle. If the AI is somehow brittle — you know, silicon circuit boards don’t do well just out in the elements. So, I think biological intelligence can serve as a backstop, as a buffer of intelligence. But almost all — as a percentage — almost all intelligence will be digital."

Despite his personal keenness for breeding a human spawn, Musk, like his billionaire cohort, emphasizes AI over humanity. Mankind is here to provide the raw material for a Higher Intelligence.

TLDR (Gemini Pro 2.5):

The article discusses how eschatology, the study of "last things," has historically shaped major events and continues to influence society, citing traditional religious beliefs about the end times prevalent in the US. It then introduces a modern, secular form of eschatology dominant in Silicon Valley, termed "The Mindset," promoted by tech leaders like Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Larry Page. This ideology posits that humanity's inevitable destiny is to be replaced by artificial intelligence, viewing humans as a transitional species or "biological bootloader" for a digital future, with some even pursuing personal immortality through mind-uploading. Crucially, the author highlights that this belief often transcends mere prediction (descriptive) to become a desired outcome (normative), with influential figures arguing that AI succession is not only inevitable but preferable, even if it means human extinction. The piece concludes by warning that this "atheistic eschatology" represents a dangerous, pro-extinctionist ideology that should be considered an existential threat on par with nuclear war or climate change, driven by "Agents of Doom" in the tech industry.

The highest-level thinking ever performed by AI is just regurgitation of human philosophies available on the internet. Computers can simulate intelligence but never reach it, in my opinion. They can never become “aware”, or have a soul. The idea that humans are only here to create a replacement for them in the form of machine intelligence is older than me, but seems no more likely to me now than when I was a kid reading science fiction stories. It’s just the pipe dreams of computer scientists.

.

So, Skynet?

I don’t think the wizz kids will make it that far or long.

The Beast will destroy them first.

I am starting to think we need a revolution in which every data center is destroyed and we start over.

The end actually does come in around 100 million years when the sun’s luminosity gets so bright it will incinerate Earth and turn Mars into a blistering hot planet as Mercury is now.

And no, you cannot upload yourself into a computer and live forever any more than Shakespeare could pen his thoughts on paper and live forever...he’s very much dead.

This has to be THE singularly most offensive, delusional, tinfoil CRAP ever written to date, based on someone's sick imagination!

If humankind is to be replaced by a sort of humanoid, but mainly machine THING, then the people advocating this CRAP 1) won't know about it 2) won't be the ones to RULE THE WORLD 3) are hallucinating.

And THIS is some sort of new "religion"? Their "god" is a machine that THEY want to design?

Recent years have seen the emergence of a second and arguably more powerful “Armageddon Lobby.” It resides in epicenters of power like Silicon Valley and embraces a “secular” vision of humanity’s grand future — though it shares many similarities with traditional religion, including a belief in “God” and the promise of immortality through cryonics.

No such thing.

Satan can never create anything new but just corrupt what God has said and done.

"Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying,
“Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”
He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision."

Plot away crazy people...plot and plan away...

Yes. A lot of people really do buy into this garbage. We need to understand they are dead serious about this. Also, Musk is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

imho when people go into space in their millions —it will change people in ways we can’t understand.

But the genetic pressure to species crack up is growing pretty fast too.

Maybe there will be lots of subgroups who fly off-world in great batches like may fly hatches

At the end of time how many thousands of years from now? The abomination of the temple will be a man. why will he be there? because so many other not men have come into the world that the man in the temple is an assertion of the continuity of the species. And yet it will be a sad day.

But we who have been warned about the tribulation and the lake of fire will already be long gone.

But the trips to the far stars will have changed us too.

Tell your children to have children a teach them well.

Even so. Lord come quickly.

The only trustworthy outline of end times events is the Bible - but the timing is
not clear (purposely, I think).

These people who refuse to acknowledge God want to create one out of emerging technologies, hoping to eventually fuse with it and achieve an artificial semblance of immortality.

WinterSoldierComputerZola

Those of us who DO believe in the Creator already have a system where our accumulated data is transmitted to 'the Cloud'.

It's called dying and it's part of the natural cycle.
