Slate: Introducing the Bezos-backed EV pickup for the masses
Yahoo Finance ^ | April 25th, 2025 | Pras Subramanian Senior Reporter

“We built it, you make it.”

That’s the motto for Slate, a new American electric vehicle company, which just revealed its launch model and is backed by ex-Amazon (AMZN) executives, including, reportedly, Jeff Bezos’s family office

Slate said its EV pickup, a bare-bones truck with a footprint smaller than a Ford (F) Maverick, will cost somewhere in the mid-$20K range, and it will come in any color you want — as long as it’s slate gray, that is. The option-challenged vehicle offers a choice of two battery sizes for the rear-wheel-drive truck: a 52.7-kWh battery pack targeting 150 miles of range and an 84.3-kWh pack with 240 miles of range.

That said, my fuel bill is nowhere near $4K/year.

One has to be driving a lot and have a vehicle that gets crappy gas mileage. Somebody that drives 15K miles a year and averages 20 miles to the gallon at $4 per gallon is only going pay $3K per year for gas..

At least someone looked at something Youtube of mine.

Granted the vast bulk of anything photo or video goes to stock agencies. Youtube stuff is once in a while.

I may have to eat crow. There does appear to be a big aerodynamic penalty for a square front end. The basic F150 Lighting with a listed range of 240 miles has a 98KWH battery..

The smaller EV pickup getting 240 miles with 84kWh battery seems to compare, IMHO, with the F-150 Lightning (larger pickup) getting 240 miles with 98kWh battery. The Lightning is larger/heaver.

36,000 moles plus per year, formerly 28 mpg at $3 to $4 over the years it was driven was $4500 per year. That same 36,00 miles in my model 3 would cost me $720 if I had to pay the retail 8 cents per kWh in Texas that’s at 250 watt hours per mile, I have been averaging 180 lately. It’s free for me mostly since it charges off solar panels above it paid off years ago. I take it to Austin at least monthly sometimes every weekend in the spring and fall outdoors season to my Austin condo or lake house in centex. Houston every 6 weeks or so. I am averaging 25K per year on the Tesla vs 36K for the Volvo remote sat data from rigs post covid makes the difference.

Point is I was spending $4500 and now if I had to drive the same distance it would be $720 really less I upped the energy use vs what it has been averaging. Mind you the payment on the Tesla is half what the Volvo was over the same 60 month note period.

“and how is an opinion about the looks “stupid”? Please explain!”

It was stupid because it was false and only posted because you want to insult anyone or anything associated with EVs regardless of the truth of your post.
