(Vanity) Update on my husband's recovery from a major heart attack
April 20, 2025, 4:45 PM CST | Patriot777

Posted on 04/20/2025 4:09:05 PM PDT by Patriot777

Today, millions of believers in Christ Jesus here in the United States and billions in other countries around the world celebrated The Resurrection of The Lord Jesus Christ from the dead. Now His Holy Spirit dwells within each and every believer, and Christ is seated at the right hand of His Father God, pleading the case of every believer before Him to refute the evil wiles of Satan to accuse and say, "Look! look what they've done this time--another slip up, another mistake! They're not worthy to be called one of your children, God--cast them out, blot them out of Your Book of Life!"

God cannot see anything but the Precious Blood of His Son on the soul of every believer, and "if we sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous."

All we need do is confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When we do this, we also ask that God will help us in never doing that wrong again, doing a conscious 180 and staying firmly and stubbornly on the narrow path.

How much closer do we, any of us, become that much more aware of just what is immediately at stake at the moment we find out that a loved one is possibly at the point of death, and come and fall at The Master's Feet and cry out please help my beloved husband, or wife, or mother, or father, or sister or brother, or any other related loved ones, family and friends?

Oh Dear Lord Jesus, Father God! Don't let them die! Please be with them and don't let them die!

This is the second time this has happened to me, begging God to keep my husband alive, don't let him die. He was in a horrible vehicular accident in February 2017, a end-over end, side-over-side rollover. He did sustain a medium-level concussion and whiplash, but no broken bones or organ trauma or other types of physical trauma except some musculoskeletal injuries that over time, heal in an otherwise healthy individual.

Now, April 20, 2025, 21 days after John's massive M.I., that event starting two days before either of us honestly knew that was what was going on with him on March 31st, he's been home from the hospital since April 11th.

It's been of course a slow go, his getting back his strength, being pretty scared of doing a whole lot of anything to possibly trigger another cardiac event. He's had to get used to having to wear what is called a ZOLL LifeVest, meant to keep cardiac patients alive that are at high risk for their heart going into a dangerous arrhythmia or stopping altogether. The ZOLL only activates and delivers a "treatment" (a shock meant to restore the heart's beat or from an otherwise unrecoverable arrhythmia) if it does sense that his heart has stopped and he's passed out.

However, if it senses a dangerous set of rhythms and his heart has not stopped (he's not passed out from it), he pushes two buttons simultaneously to prevent the vest from delivering a treatment. If it continues to detect the very wrongful signals coming from his heart, it will alert him and he goes through the same exercise again.

He contacts his doctor, ZOLL, and then EMS. The same goes if he goes unconscious and his vest activates and delivers a treatment.

The first few days of his being back home were I know so very frightful for him, incredibly so. ZOLL has videos that he can I can both watch about all the main particulars about the LifeVest, what it does and doesn't do, safety precautions, etc. There's a manual and a Quick Guide and a Patient Checklist and a number to call.

I think he felt a bit better after better acquainting himself with the equipment, though he was fitted for the vest on the very evening, but in rapid-fire fashion over the course of about an hour and one-half by a technician, the very evening he was discharged by his doctor.

He's gotten used to the ZOLL's particular functions as it pertains to how to change out the rechargeable battery with a fresh one every 24 hours, a very short shower to prevent to long a lapse in monitoring, a few other things. It's not gotten to the point where it's notifying him that a treatment is imminent and he's conscious, and he's stopping it from going ahead with it. He's not gone unconscious and received a treatment and thus ended back in the ER.

After his stay in the hospital, which was a bit over 48 hours or maybe 72 in SICU for two sets of two stent placements, a balloon angioplasty, then finally to a private room where he then after a few days underwent an endoscopy and flex sigmoidoscopy for colon bleeding (found a bleeding gastric ulcer, multiple colon polyps and hemorrhoids), he was in the hospital from April 2, 2025 to April 11, 2025.

He's set to see his cardiologist this Tuesday, his cardiologist APRN this Friday, and his gastroenterologist the second or third week in May. He's on the slew of meds and needs be on another bit (Betas, ACE/ARB) treaters. But his blood pressure tends to run too low so his doctor is reluctant.

It was unbelievably scary for me too, lying there at night about to finally drift off to sleep, whether he'd be awakened by the ZOLL's monitoring module that he was in the midst of another event or an arrhythmia, or that he'd lost consciousness because of this and stopped breathing.

I had to realize, that EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING, is in God's Hands. He knows the number of every hair on your head, the next time you'll blink your eyes, your next thought, when you'll draw your next breath, every need you have and will ever have. He sees every tear you cry or are about to or are trying so desperately to hide it to keep strong and not dissolve into sobs.

I know that The Lord Jesus is keeping John safe and is continuing to and will until the Day of His Return for both of us. Please agree with me in prayer that he will accept Christ as his Lord and Savior, as I do not believe that he has. I love him so much, and of course I and no one else can force him to say yes to Jesus.

But we celebrate this day because starting on Good Friday, yet then we know by His Word that His Father destined His Son Jesus to give his Life before the world began--

Jesus said Yes to His Father God. I'll give My Life for them all.

Patriot 777, I pray that God will fill you both with God's gracious and precious peace!

The scripture says it is beyond even understanding how precious that Peace is..

I know I personally struggle in experiencing that peace at times, and yet God has DECLARED it in His Word.

Therefore it IS true...

Peace, peace, wonderful peace, coming down from the Father above, sweep over my spirit forever I pray, in Fathomless billows of Love.

Praying much for you both tonight..

I am 83 and lost my precious husband in 2021. So I know the pain.

Oh, how the loss of a loved one is feared so much prior to the acceptance of Jesus as LORD and Savior!

More than any physical pain could cause the Christian spouse, is the knowledge the beloved partner is yet without the love and grace of Jesus.

May the LORD God keep your beloved earthbound towards the time of acceptance of Jesus as his LORD and Savior.

May you have the courage and grace in whatever condition your beloved’s earthly body may be during the time of his acceptance.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.

I lost my dearly loved husband of 35 years a little over three years ago and know EXACTLY what you are going through. I remember coming home every night from his hospital bedside and laying prostrate on the hard floor praying for his healing - like David did for his newborn son. For the last 10 days of his life, he was heavily sedated and on a ventilator so I could only hope that he knew somehow I was there, reading him Scripture, praying and telling him I loved him. God's answer was "no" and He took him home to heaven. It was hard to get to the point emotionally, though I knew spiritually, that God always has a purpose for everything and Bob was His child. Like David, I accepted, "I will go to him, but he will not return to me.” (II Samuel 12:23). This is the "Blessed Hope" we are promised - that we sorrow not as others who have no hope. My faith is even stronger now and I know I will see him again one day.

I will pray for your husband that he is healed physically AND spiritually so that no matter what the Lord wills you will enjoy God's presence together for eternity.

My husband has had 2 heart attacks years apart. The last one was during COVID and he needed a bypass. He also had to wear a life vest. I was only able to visit him during the day at the hospital. Strangely, COVID could only be transmitted between 5 pm and 8 am. My husband made a miraculous recovery. I pray your husband does too. One thing we added to his medicine list was sildenafil (Viagra). Look up the research. It can improve heart function for some people. Generic Viagra is pretty cheap at Sams Club with a premium membership.

This is a beautiful and powerful post, Sister. I will certainly pray for your husband’s salvation! You expressed so well that anguish we feel at the prospect of our unsaved loved ones leaving this life before they know Jesus.

That song is one of my favorite, Peace, Peace, Wonderful Peace..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amen, I grew up and was weaned on hymns.
That is one of my favorites also.
Far away in the depths of my spirit tonight
Rolls a melody sweeter than psalm;
In celestial-like strains it unceasingly falls
O’er my soul like an infinite calm.
Refrain:
Peace, peace, wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray
In fathomless billows of love!
What a treasure I have in this wonderful peace,
Buried deep in the heart of my soul,
So secure that no power can mine it away,
While the years of eternity roll!
I am resting tonight in this wonderful peace,
Resting sweetly in Jesus’ control;
For I’m kept from all danger by night and by day,
And His glory is flooding my soul!
And I think when I rise to that city of peace,
Where the Author of peace I shall see,
That one strain of the song which the ransomed will sing
In that heavenly kingdom will be:
Ah soul, are you here without comfort and rest,
Marching down the rough pathway of time?
Make Jesus your friend ere the shadows grow dark;
Oh, accept this sweet peace so sublime!
John is I think doing better day-by-day, getting stronger. His cardiologist said that his heart was weak, not just from the heart attack but from heart failure.
His main struggle is trying to get any kind of meaningful sleep while wearing his ZOLL LifeVest, it’s very uncomfortable and the sensors and electrodes and large “therapy” pads press and dig into his back. He’s always been a slim build but he’d lost weight and now has gained some back.
Getting enough rest is an essential part of his recovery, and the poor man is just not getting enough of it. His cardiologist also said that John will be wearing the ZOLL vest for three months, then not wearing it after that. Emphasized that he would be needing a cardiac defibrillator implant / pacemaker, the hospital would not pay for it, it cost thousands of dollars, etc. He would be needing it from what I understand right after he stops utilizing the LifeVest.
I said that I was doing everything I could to help John with obtaining Social Security Disability and / or Medicaid, and he’s got an appointment with one of their doctors this Tuesday.
We’ll see what happens. I’ve been praying and asking The Lord Jesus that John will receive his defibrillator / pacemaker. He’s helped my beloved husband thus far, I know He will make a way where there seems to be no way.
Good Sunday Morning!
To begin, thank you so very, very much for your prayers and compassion and consideration in this great time of health need. To all who are lifting John up before our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, asking for His Healing touch upon this man both physically and spiritually.
My beloved husband is doing well, although going about doing basic things that he would normally do just about the house, like the cooking he loves to do, and going to the market, comes and goes with fatigue. I see him having to really push himself to do things, and he really wants to cook, really wants to go to market with me and walk the aisles and bring the groceries in to the house.
His doctors have told him about the fact that he has had a major MI (STEMI) and is in congestive heart failure. I don’t think it’s really sunk in, that it’s really actually impacted him again (yes, it did when he was in the hospital but he was in a state of confusion), until the day before yesterday when we went to what is the best meat market in town to obtain the traditional weekend sirloin steak to grill outdoors.
He wanted to drive there, but I had to tell him again that he couldn’t because his heart could go into a dangerous arrhythmia and he would pass out from it, endangering not only us but everyone else on the road. John basically told me there in the truck before we left that I “braked too hard” and “drove like a maniac”.
I’m sorry, but I had to laugh. And I did.
I drive within the speed limit, according to conditions, and if what I call, nicely, an “aardvark” decides to embark on a maniacal motoring spree in my vicinity, I give them space in which to do it, and if it’s dangerous enough, I get the info I need and call law enforcement.
John became sullen and angry and thought to let it ruin his day (and mine), but eventually when the time came to start getting the charcoal ready and the steak marinated, he calmed down and seemed to enjoy the process. The steak turned out very nicely as usual, with a salad and fries.
It’s hard to acclimate to being both a post-STEMI and congestive heart failure patient, not being able to do the things you were doing before everything hit the fan cardiovascularly—maintaining the yards, woodworking, driving wherever you would like to and in distance, for some things.
But GOD IS OUR SOURCE. And He Heals and makes Whole today just as He did as His Son Jesus walked the earth and gave His Life for us all.
And this is my prayer, that The Lord Jesus restore my beloved husband’s heart and lungs and whatever damage may have occurred to his brain, if so. And that John would accept Christ as his Savior and Lord before Jesus’ Return.
Wow, he’s up and around so quickly! Slow your roll, buddy! Doesn’t sound like the kind of guy who takes it easy. But you sound like a good mate, patient and light when he is heavy.
Father, again we lift up John and his dear wife
for your special comfort and guidance.
Help John come to terms with his new conditions
and help him to help You heal him, body, soul and especially spirit.
May he recognize that we all need a Savior; and You are
that Savior Who sent His Son to die for our sins,
and those of the entire fallen world.
We do not deserve it; but You give us grace and mercy!
Hallelujah!
We life John up to the ministrations of the Holy Spirit,
to bring about a deepening realization in him;
and we ask these things in the Name Above All Names,
Jesus the Christ.
In His Name we pray,
Amen!
