The value of the semi-annual switch between Standard and Daylight time is most pronounced in northern tier states. The southern states have less variation.
It is, if course, totally out of the question to delay school until it gets light outside? Rather than forcing everyone to change their clocks twice a year?
Somehow, I wonder that if they actually go to permanent daylight savings time, the Liberals and lefties, in their desire to ‘resist’, will stay on Standard Time year-round just to protest against Trump?

Our local High School doesn’t start until 9:00 a.m.
It’s light by then, no matter the season or clock setting.
No, don’t split the difference - just get rid of daylight savings.
If you are in the center of your time zone, as I am here at Longitude 75°W, the Sun should be at its highest point in the sky at Noon. Period. End of story.

We had a cat that that taught herself to read a clock.
I’d rather see a saner approach where DST is for the summer months. Beginning on Memorial Day and ending in October. But I’ll shed no tears if it is eliminated all together.
That is my big concern with DST starting so early in the year.
If we are to have DST it should be for the summer months.
Interesting! My deceased mother has an old schoolmate that lives in Pocatello, Idaho. Is that in the same part of Idaho that you mention?
Make the bump to DST permanent. But eliminate going back.
I think DST had become synonymous with “screwing with our clocks”. Most people want a later sunset not earlier.
Living on the front edge of a time zone can be bleak especially in the winter.

fun thing about Idaho is the portion that boarders Oregon is Mountain time, but the part the boarders Washington is Pacific time. Pocatello is SE Idaho, and Mountain time.
