Gen Z branded as ‘the ghosted generation’ as dates, colleges and employers keep saying ‘no’
Fox News via NY Post ^ | 4/07/25 | Taylor Penley

Ghosted on dating apps, rejected by colleges and passed over for jobs — rejection isn’t fleeting for Gen Z. In fact, it’s becoming a defining feature of their collective identity.

As young adults come of age in a culture shaped by hyper-curated digital existences, political tumult and cultural and economic instability, a new pattern has emerged: Gen Z is facing more rejections at more critical life stages than any recent generation.

What happens when the entire group begins to internalize “no” as the default response?

Author Delia Cai says Gen Z egos or their alleged “sense of entitlement” isn’t what’s at stake — rather, it’s “our expectation of agency in an increasingly mediated world.”

Last month, she wrote a Business Insider article telling the story of one largely anonymous Gen Zer named Em, recounting the hundreds of rejections they’ve faced while looking to pin down their next opportunity for a potential breakthrough.

Last month, she wrote a Business Insider article telling the story of one largely anonymous Gen Zer named Em, recounting the hundreds of rejections they’ve faced while looking to pin down their next opportunity for a potential breakthrough.

Living with a loved one while scraping by on a few hundred dollars a month from contract work, Em lamented living a life they feel is “not worth living at the moment.”

But Em isn’t alone, and the article explores the rejection factor that may be largely fueling many of the titles Gen Zers wear to make them the “unhappiest generation.”

I’ve had sleep for dinner more than a few times.

I have a wonderful son with an engineering degree, a job, a great sense of humor, and handsome, athletic, kind, loves dogs, wants children. I am praying for the right engineer girl to come along. Not some vacant dipsheet of a girl.

I just love the continuing blame men for everything. Next we must force men to marry tue worst crop of women that have ever existed.

Hoeflation: Today's men must work 5 times harder than their grandfathers for women that are 20 times worse than their grandmothers.

Life experiences that back it all up.

My big issue with AI!

If one is always fishing the same pond, can he catch a different fish?

We need human ingenuity to advance and that requires critical thinking.

Very insipid.

No reason to use insipid when the word bland (from the Latin ‘blandus’) already existed in Middle English.

Re: NY Post Article in Post 2 by Nicholas Eberstadt "7 million young men don’t want to work — we must force them"

It's not a coincidence that Nicholas Eberstadt is a propagandist. His grandfather, Ferdinand Eberstadt, was a banker and "policy advisor" who played a key role in creating the National Security Council and the Central Intelligence Agency.

“Ghosted” has specific social media connotations that “ignored” does not.

Ignored = “refuse to take notice of or acknowledge; disregard intentionally.”

Ghosted = “end a relationship with (someone) by suddenly and without explanation withdrawing from all communication.”

The article writer is trying (and failing) to be clever, even though you can’t really be ghosted by colleges and employers that you’re applying to (since you have no preexisting relationship with them).

Business Insider’s take on a similar word at least used a more accurate word: “rejected”.

Absolutely agree, especially in terms of appearance. Anywhere you go these days -- grocery store, retail outlets, restaurants, even the gym -- so many of the young women you see are pathetic and totally unattractive. And that's just on the surface. It only gets worse as you learn more about what is inside of them.

I'm glad I spent my young adulthood in the 1970s and 80s, when women were women and men were men.

Insipid vs Bland
“Insipid” and “bland” are synonyms that both describe something lacking in flavor, taste, or interest. However, there are subtle differences in their usage and connotations:

Usage: “Bland” is more commonly used to describe food or a person’s personality, while “insipid” can be used in a broader range of contexts.
Intensity: “Insipid” carries a stronger negative connotation than “bland,” suggesting a complete lack of flavor or excitement.
Originality: “Insipid” implies a lack of originality or creativity, while “bland” simply suggests a lack of flavor or interest.
Subjectivity: The perception of what is “bland” can vary from person to person, while “insipid” generally carries a more universally negative connotation.
Formality: “Bland” is more neutral and can be used in both formal and informal contexts, while “insipid” may sound more formal or literary.

There is no distinction nor difference here IMHO.

Thank you for making my point. Ignored and ghosted have different meanings. The former born of apathy or lack of awareness, the latter tinged with dislike or even passive aggression.

Agreed. Seems today that they have no drive to provide for/protect a woman/family, and they have internet porn for a sexual ‘release’. Pretty sad state of affairs, as the testosterone levels in our young men plummet.

What are the incentives to make them "work"?

Decent pay worthy of a 1st world nation? Hence Trump dive for repatriation of industry.

Country faces a critical shortage of plumbers, who can make up to $200K a year. If you want to live outside mommy’s basement, go to work. Problem is they want to be an influencer, a TickTocker and a financial analyst.
