Ghosted on dating apps, rejected by colleges and passed over for jobs — rejection isn’t fleeting for Gen Z. In fact, it’s becoming a defining feature of their collective identity.
As young adults come of age in a culture shaped by hyper-curated digital existences, political tumult and cultural and economic instability, a new pattern has emerged: Gen Z is facing more rejections at more critical life stages than any recent generation.
What happens when the entire group begins to internalize “no” as the default response?
Author Delia Cai says Gen Z egos or their alleged “sense of entitlement” isn’t what’s at stake — rather, it’s “our expectation of agency in an increasingly mediated world.”
Last month, she wrote a Business Insider article telling the story of one largely anonymous Gen Zer named Em, recounting the hundreds of rejections they’ve faced while looking to pin down their next opportunity for a potential breakthrough.

Living with a loved one while scraping by on a few hundred dollars a month from contract work, Em lamented living a life they feel is “not worth living at the moment.”
But Em isn’t alone, and the article explores the rejection factor that may be largely fueling many of the titles Gen Zers wear to make them the “unhappiest generation.”

7 million young men don’t want to work — we must force them
https://nypost.com/2025/04/08/opinion/7-million-young-men-dont-want-to-work-we-must-force-them/
What are the incentives to make them "work"?
It used to be the need to provide for a wife and family in order to have a steady sex life. But one does not dare state that base truth these days. Of course there were other reasons to marry and have a family but the one I mentioned was a strong one.
Ummm....article not entirely true...but there are lots of kids with many trophies for participation...maybe some of them will realize that computerized interaction is not real and that AI only reports on what is retrieved from the net, not necessarily what is true. Maybe some will mow their neighbors lawn or take out their garbage or clean out their yards for some bucks. Just to figure out how to earn money..
Maybe in 1980. Not 2025.
Democrat pussies!
Last thing I wanted to do was stay at home!
I had jobs to be had, money to be made, and
girls to screw! All legal of course.
I’m not special, I’m just a normal guy.
Young people these days are infected by Democrat
theocracy. Somebody owes you something!
BS!
Parents owe you a decent chance to learn
and succeed in life. but beyond that it is up to you to
get out there and fight for your share.
You can’t do that playing games on a smart phone all
day.
Smart phones are a great tool. but like any tool use it wisely.
Kids need to be greedy and self sufficient as soon as possible.
“What are the incentives to make them “work?l
Hunger.
That one always works.

I just love the continuing blame men for everything.
Next we must force men to marry tue worst crop of women that have ever existed.
They see a system that hates them, from education, to social groups, to famlilies, to work, to government, and they are not gonna play along. All of these demand things they must do to be a real whatever. Where are all the same demands that modern women must do to be a real woman? Where are all the people discussing all the genuine responsibilities women are failing at? Where are the articles discussing the improvements women must make? Where do we see society explaining what women are failing at in relationships with men? We see none of this. Its all blame the other side.
The best move now, is not to play in the first place.

Agree, and my Gen Z son would agree. I keep telling him to do a study abroad for a broad. Some nice Eastern European girl would be perfect. American Gen Z girls are narcissists that all want the same 10% of guys out there, even the ugly and/or stupid ones. They are seem to think they have a golden Pussy Cat.
Just another whinging article, that omits a LOT of things about GEN Zers. All we ever see is BAD stuff; they NEVER write about the good ones. And all posters to this thread have bought into it. WHY?
Force them? I doubt that will work. They have to see the value in it - and the benefits of having values.
While there are exceptions, I mostly watch older films -- 1960s to 1990s -- because I can't stand the characters depicted in the newer films. Especially the women.
They are so mouthy, arrogant, pushy and aggressive. And they're the protagonists, the characters I'm supposed to be rooting for. I'm supposed to admire their Strong, Independent Girl Power attitude.
Actresses in older films were so much more beautiful and well mannered. And no arms coated in tattoos.
All roads of blame lead to men. It’s been that way for decades. As in the movie As Good As It Gets: “How do write women so well? “I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability.”
I was sitting next to my mom in a theater when I heard this. I instantly started laughing. 'That's not funny! Said my Mom. Rather than argue with her I replied 'of course not!'
“The best move now, is not to play in the first place.”
You can play, but never marry a liberal Democrat woman!
Full disclosure;
Been married to the same woman for 47 years.
There is no way I could understand why my father
and 3 Step fathers married my mother!
Maybe I learned the danger signs at age 4.
Sad thing to say about your mother, but she was trash.
Women need to ask themselves- aside from sex, what do you bring to a relationship? Homemaking skills? Steady income? Emotional support? Many women don’t bring any of this to potential suitors.
Ask me about the Great Recession which, contrary to what you hear in the corporate media, began in 2007 in the job market and did not end until 2015. That’s NINE years.
Agreed. They must see the benefits of having values in their lives.
And getting started successfully has always been a challenge for a youngster.
There are attainable ways to get a decent job — something better than driving Grubhub hamburgers around town for $3.16. Which is honest, respectable work but very low income. There are very low cost training opportunities in a number of other lines of work (start by checking the local community colleges(s)?)
A person could use GrubHub work as a stepping stone — while learning auto mechanics, barbering, cosmetology, computers, real estate, or dozen other ways to earn more.
And it’s not a totally list generation. Sone training classes are very active with students.
